Arrow Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked

Yup. Part 3 in 3D. Clever. See what they did there? MMMPhh

Quote:
20th Century Fox has announced that a third film in the live-action/cg hybrid Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise will hit theaters in 2011. Titled Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D, the film will hit theaters on December 16, 2011. The film will be up against Steven Spielberg’s The Adventure’s of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn, which opens one week later on December 23rd.

Lets just be glas they aren’t trying to find another play on the words Squeak and Threequel or Squeak and Three-D. The first two films grossed over $791 million worldwide. No other information has been released at this time. Do they have a script? Do they need a script? Is a director attached? Do they need a director? I’m kidding… kind of. I would expect that most of the cast will return (can you say payday?), including the Chipettes.
You were warned.

Considering how much $$$ the last one made, I thought an announcement would be made before now.

Of course it will be that way, it's cheaper for the studio. I'm just shocked how much money these movies are making.

Default Jason Lee In For ‘Alvin and the Chipmunks 3′

Quote:
Childhood memories are fragile things that require the sort of delicate touch that the Hollwood machine generally lacks, with its emphasis on the bottom line. How else does one account for the fact that Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 is already in development?

Flesh and bone actor Jason Lee appeared alongside the titular CGI critters in the first two Chipmunks movies and will do it again in a third big screen venture. Does it even need saying that this time moviegoers will “get” to see Alvin, Simon, and Theodore in 3D?

Lee broke the news about his involvement with Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 at a press conference to promote his appearance on the show Raising Hope this week. January 2011 will mark the start of filming on the threequel, which could be under the direction of Shrek Forever After helmer Mike Mitchell – a fellow who was responsible for the surprisingly decent superhero family adventure, Sky High (think X-Men: First Class, as done by the Disney Channel).

The titular, musically-inclined rodents – cocky Alvin, nerdy Simon, and fat innocent Theodore – were the creation of Ross Bagdasarian, Sr. back in 1958. Bagdasarian sped up the playback of his own vocals to create the high-pitched intonations of his creations, which ended up releasing a number of hit singles and albums through the 1960s- in addition to inspiring cartoon TV show and movie spinoffs during the 80s and 90s.

Fast forward to the year 2007 as a CGI/live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks movie hits theaters, with Lee starring as David Seville, the critter’s much put-upon manager and father figure. That film was a financial hit and spawned a follow-up bearing the wince-inducing title Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, which sold lots of tickets at the box office during the 2009 holiday season and introduced the world to the CGI versions of “The Chipettes” (see below).

We know that movies like Alvin and the Chipmunks, Yogi Bear, or The Smurfs are strictly for the kids and no one who goes to see them expects thought-provoking plot mechanics or Mametian dialogue (as hilarious as that would be). Is it too much to ask for some originality or a kid’s film that offers younger moviegoers a more substantial experience than that which they could get by staring at a shiny pair of keys for an hour and a half?

Pixar films are in general both fun for the little ones and deal with real-life issues that don’t go entirely over their heads either – the same goes for Dreamworks’ best works like How to Train Your Dragon or Kung Fu Panda. Those movies alone make it quite difficult to not be cynical about a project like Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 and dismiss those who defend it for pandering to the under-10 crowd.

Production on Alvin and the Chipmunks 3 could finish in time for the film to hit 2D and 3D theaters by Winter 2011. Will you be going to see this one?

So....they resolved that nasty lawsuit between Fox and the Bagdasarians that pretty well permanently scuttled the third movie a while ago?

Has Fox decided not to make this movie 3D? I have a poster for Alvin And The Chipmunks: ChipWrecked and it doesn't say 3D or Real D 3D or Imax 3D on it anywhere.

I actually liked the first one, the second one was pretty decent, but this one was a huge letdown. I don't think the entire theater even laughed once. It seems like no one behind the scenes even cared. There were some good moments here and there, but overall the film let me down quite a bit. Definitely the worst in the trilogy. Anytime a film franchise takes their characters away from home and sends them on some type of worldwide journey (Sex and the City 2, Cars 2) it usually fails. Same sadly goes for this film. Oh well.

she got tickets for me & my 2 kids, herself, my niece and brother in law and my cousin.....a few of us had things going on today so it was a motley crue of us.

cute for kids...but that's about it.

I hate the first two movies with a passion and I thought I would walk out of this movie, but surprisingly I didn't and actually thought it was the best of the series. Still wasn't great, but at least I could sit through it.

I didn't mind the first one for what it was, my girls enjoyed it and I didn't want to claw my eyes out. The 2nd? Ugh, it lost anything and everything I somewhat enjoyed from the first one. Luckily my youngest is going to see this at a birthday party so I won't have to take them. Might pick it up on blu if it gets cheap enough and they want it....

I saw this for a second time and I actually loved it.
The first time I saw it I was like eh, it's okay, but I actually liked it way better the second time. I still prefer the Squeakquel over the 1st & 3rd. Will be buying the blu-ray.
