Default Dragon Quest XI-Echoes of an Elusive Age S: Definitive Edition

Anyone else picking this up today? I just got mine in the mail and looking forward to diving back in after putting over 8 hours into the demo (save carries over). I've had a blast with it so far and encourage any JRPG fans who haven't played it to at least give the demo ago.

Anyway, here's a good updated review of the Switch version from Kotaku, along with that reviewers orginal review of the PS4/PC version.

There a day one update to install. From a quick Google search it seems to fix some things that were causing crashes, so probably a good idea to download and install it before playing. It was pretty quick on my wifi (couple minutes).

I've been waiting for this one for a while, but I'm still playing FE:3H and have yet to touch Mario Maker, so I'll probably wait a while before I snag it. Good to see all the great reviews though.

This game is fantastic for playing handheld while watching sports on the tv. Can just run around the field, fight things with auto battle on and just have to press a button to start the fight and then at the end and just pay active attention while walking around. Makes leveling up painless, and I like being over leveled in JRPGs.

I tried playing the demo before and I'm hooked. Good thing that I can carry over the progress to the full game. I ordered a physical copy of it for my Nintendo Switch. I think I have a month to play this game while waiting for Sword and Shield.

I'm in the same place. Still playing Fire Emblem and have Ni No Kuni after that. Will get it eventually.

Completed this the other day. Taking a break for a while before I look at the post game.

Really impressed with the level of polish and attention to detail. DQXI starts off slow. I was considering switching to 2D but stayed with it (Glad I did). For me, the game really takes off when
[Show spoiler]Jade
and
[Show spoiler]Rab
join the party. I enjoyed the forging system and the skill tree. Really cool how there's an option to un-do the skill tree and re-assign them (for a small price).

If there's one con it's music. There's not enough tracks. The ones used are good but overplayed.

The voice acting is terrific.

9/10

Itís best to have separate save files for 2D and 3D, when you switch back and forth, you lose some progress. I played through the game twice, once in 3D and then again in 2D.

It’s odd that they didn’t implement the easy Switching between 3D and 2D like the 3DS version had. Also a little disappointed that the retro side quests all had generic looking 16 bit graphics and 8 bit sound on the Switch. The 3DS version had differing graphics and sound depending on which game world you warped to.

Yeah I agree. Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap let you switch back and forth with the ZR button. But it somewhat makes sense in this case because the maps are different. The 2D map is actually smaller in overall size.

And I absolutely agree about the Tickington missions. It sucks that the graphics don't change with the game like they did on the 3DS version. Also those little white houses looked cool on the 3DS in 3D, but you can only view them in 2D on the Switch.
