Default Entries for nonexistent titles

This has probably been asked before but I'm wondering why there are entries for titles that were never announced and were never released?

Example: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo 4K -- https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-G...lu-ray/211018/

What's the point?

Because a User entered those in the Database based on preliminary information, rumor, speculation, or just wishful thinking. I guess nobody ever reported it to the mods once it turned out to be false so they could be deleted

The item linked had a UPC and even a Best Buy SKU listing, but was apparently cancelled prior to going to production. Pieter V who did this one certain has a long positive record so in this situation almost certainly it was seriously planned at some point.

Four possible reasons I can think of.

1. Titles that were planned, but didn't happen (as hariseldon explained).

2. Members who submit as much as they can to get "points". Every time someone successfully submits (almost) anything to the database then they get points on their Achievements page: https://www.blu-ray.com/community/ac...ts.php?u=40261 and can compare that to others: https://www.blu-ray.com/community/?a...opcontributors Personally, I think this is a very poor motivation, but I only work here (in an unpaid and volunteer capacity)

3. Members who want a release that may or may not ever happen, and use the entry just to have it in their wishlist or be signed up for a pre-order notification.

4. To help with bundles. The way that the database is set up then sometimes the only way to have bundles (any release with more than 1 tv season or movie) display all the correct information from Master Movie ID's / Theatrical Entry's is by creating a nonexistent title. Example:

This came out in Italy in 2015:

At the time, none of those 3 movies had been released individually. So the person who added that also added the contents as nonexistent titles.

^ That may seem strange, but sometimes it really is the best solution based on current limitations.

Got it. Thanks for the explanation(s).
