Default New to Physical Media: What to expect for good deals on 4K Blu-rays?

Hey all,

I'm new to collecting physical media but I think it's a great hobby.

I would like to know what to expect (price-wise) for a good deal on 4k UHD Blu-rays?

I see many titles when announced to start around $40-50 USD.

Then over time many of these titles go down and settle around $24.95 after some months or years.

I don't know how to deal hunt yet but I'd like to know the trade secrets on getting the best pricing and what those prices are like?

Is $19.99 a good deal on a popular 4k Blu-ray movie? Once in a while I've seen some good movies go down to $9.99.

But I'd like to know the standard of what to expect in terms of pricing on a "good deal" for a 4K Blu-ray?

Advice appreciated.

Lots of new 4ks are $28-$30 on release day. I personally consider anything under $20 a deal for a new movie. $15 can be pretty common though later on. Best thing to do is watch Best Buy and Amazon prices weekly for titles you're interested in. They'll go down for a random week and then go back up. There's also always 2 for $30 and 3 for $50 sales going on.

If you don't care about slipcovers, everything eventually goes down in price during some really good sales, some a lot quicker than others.

If you're into steelbooks, I've noticed that new stuff like Detective Pikachu or Alita: Battle Angel can sell out fast, but when they release catalog titles like Iron Man or Toy Story as 4K steels, they just sit there and collect dust, due to the high prices and everyone already owning them. Then out of nowhere, Best Buy had an insane sale on them.

Amazon pretty frequently runs 4K deals. They currently have one where you can get two (from a limited selection of about 120 or so films) for $30, or multiples of two, so it works out to $15 apiece. I just took advantage of this and picked up 2001, Saving Private Ryan, Dunkirk, Bram Stoker's Dracula, The Witch, and Moonlight.
