Good point. I think that Mario Kart will also drive controller sales, which people might shy away from at first due to spending all their money buying the console.

Nintendo Confirms LAN Play, 'Renegade Roundup' and More

'Smart Steering' is a nice way to make the game a bit more accessible for younger or less experienced players, though some features and modes are included for veterans. There'll be a character unlock for acing the 200cc cups, while Battle Mode won't only have the return of Shine Thief, but also a new mode called 'Renegade Roundup'.

Making its debut in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, this new mode has one team trying to capture the other and put them into jail before time runs out. The opposing team must try to escape and can break their own teammates out of prison by pressing a button under the jail cell.

Mii characters are in too, which puts to rest previous worries based on the lack of a character slot for them in demo builds.

As for the inclusion of LAN play for up to 12 consoles, it's a neat idea until the reality dawns that every system will need its own USB to LAN adapter accessory - that's not likely to happen often. In any case, a big summary is below.

Quote:
As well as more accessible control methods, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe will have 48 courses available from the start, as well as five speed classes, including the expertly challenging 150cc Mirror Mode and the high-octane, ultra-fast 200cc mode. In addition, players will now be able to choose from 42 racers, including returning fan favourites King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr. For those seeking a challenge, Gold Mario awaits the finest players who can complete all cups in 200cc. Friends can also suit up and take to the asphalt with the ability to bring their Mii into the game as a racer. Also new to the series are the Inkling Boy and Inkling Girl from Splatoon 2, who bring new vehicle parts and the new Urchin Underpass course for battle mode, all based on the multiplayer shooter.

Battle mode has been revamped and expanded in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, with eight dedicated courses to choose from, including selections from previous titles such as Mario Kart 7. On top of Balloon Battle, both Bob-omb Blast and Shine Thief modes return from Mario Kart Double Dash!!, while Coin Runners makes a comeback from Mario Kart Wii. Battlers can also enjoy a brand new cops and robbers-style mode known as Renegade Roundup.

Multiplayer mayhem can be enjoyed in a variety of different ways on Nintendo Switch consoles, with four different methods available to play with friends.

- Up to four friends can play on a single Nintendo Switch console in TV mode, or in tabletop mode by using the stand at the back of the console and placing it on a flat surface
- Online multiplayer makes a return, allowing for up to two local racers to get involved in 12-player races with others around the world
- Through Wireless Play, multiple Nintendo Switch consoles can be connected to each other, allowing up to eight people to play together in the same room
- Up to 12 consoles in TV mode can be connected via LAN Play*, with one or two players per connected Nintendo Switch**

Slim to none.

This is Nintendo we're talking about, the guys that charged us extra for a grip that would charge joy cons instead of including it as standard in the box, and just look at the prices of their peripherals!

It doesn't seem to fit their MO this cycle to offer us value for money.

ConsIdering Nintendo's position in the market, I really am amazed at their arrogance when comes to their pricing. 89.99 for an extra dock being the most egregious. 70.00 for a pro controller is about as bad.

Especially when all the dock is is a bit of plastic to hold the tablet and the tiny board inside with a few USB ports and an HDMI port. Mind blowing how that costs $90...

To be fair, that did end up dropping to $50 or $60....before they stopped selling it on the US site

Which is still overpriced.

And also... if you want the little plastic piece on the Joy-Con wrist straps to match the color of you Joy-Con, that's extra $ as well

It wouldn't have costed Nintendo anything to include them instead of the black ones in the box. Even the extra Joy-Con that you buy separate have a black piece, just so they can charge you more to color match.

The $60 one was just the Dock by itself. For $90 it was Dock plus charging cable plus HDMI cable.

Hmm, $60 + $5 + $5 = $70

I cant see why the HDMI would cost more than $5 or why the charging lead would either? The 3DS one was only 5.

Well the ac adapter goes for $29.99 by itself, as ridiculously marked up as that is.

Nintendo confirmed what most of us expected:

1080p60 for Single Player or 2 player split screen; 1080p30 for 3 or 4 player split screen.

Funny people on the Apple forums are calling Nintendo's AC adapter a great bargain. https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comme...power_adapter/

Compared to an Apple charger, it is a bargain.

$50 for the cheapest charger:

I wonder why the release date in a number of places (including the eShop) for this game still says TBD even though its been confirmed by Nintendo themselves for 4/28 for a while now.

I have been out of the Nintendo ooop for a while. Is this game really as great as they say? I'm not a realistic driving sim fan but I love things like Micro Machines and Wipeout. This looks like a fun arcade game that just happens to be a racing game so I should like it.

Man if you've never heard of Mario Kart, you've been out of the loop a long time!

It's a totally fun, chaotic, unrealistic cart racer. Not even close to a sim.
