So many things could be done with that.

We are also due a Diamond and Pear remake this generation if they stick to the previous release pattern.

A Gold Silver Crystal eShop release like last years Red Blue Yellow would be cool too.
That would be the greatest thing...but will never happen

Was hoping it would be an alternate version of Sun/Moon, since I sold off my 3DS and hadn't had a chance to play it.... Not that I even have a Switch yet.

Pokken Tournament DX for Switch Sept 22nd worldwide(?)
Gold and Silver to 3DS eShop Sept 22nd worldwide
Ultra Sun and Moon on 3DS Nov 17th worldwide

I guess no mainline release because of the much larger 3DS user base. Also it wouldn't make sense to have that and Monster Hunter going at it in the same time frame.

Nintendo's press site is listing the ultra versions for the Switch too with a TBA date.

http://nintendoeverything.com/pokemo...on-for-switch/

Might just be an error but here is to hope.

Edit- was just removed from the press site.

Welp on the bright side with no mainline Pokemon coming to the Switch this year, that's one less game I need to buy in a year already crowded with great games on Switch and PS4 lol

I'm happy with Pokken being brought to Switch as it was one I really wanted to play. Will add it to my Black Friday list to keep an eye on for a deal like the Wii U one had last year.

Now I just need them to announce Wind Walker and Twilight Princess HD on Switch

One has to wonder, at what point is Nintendo going to shift focus away from 3DS and solely onto Switch? I thought the whole point of Switch and putting all their developers under one umbrella was so development resources wouldn't be fragmented and Nintendo could focus all on one platform.

They're about to release a new version of the 3DS/2DS so it was not going to happen this year

The Pokemon Company is not Nintendo, nor is Bandai/Namco (for Pokken), so they would not have been under that banner of consolidation. They also probably didn't put many people on any of these projects since these 5 games are a port (Pokken), a rom dump (in a simple terms) and a slight upgrade of an existing game (Ultra Sun and Moon). The install base is still massive so all of this is extremely easy money for next to no work. As long as stuff keeps selling they have no reason to kill off the 3DS yet. It also helps that so far both Switch and 3DS seem to be healthy enough to not cannibalize each others sales. With the rate they come out I fully expect the next mainline Pokemon game to only be on Switch since they should have 5-10 million systems in homes easily by that time if Mario sells well.

Somehow I always forget that. The Pokémon name is so synonymous with Nintendo, it's hard to distinct one from another.

That's why you have to pay closer attention to things.

I think a Sun and Moon sequel only made sense after what we saw with Black and White back in 2012. There was obviously so much left to do in Alola that it seems natural to do a continuation of sorts.

What really makes me wonder though is why Kalos/XY were never expanded upon? I've never felt like a generation was rushed until Gen 6 with Pokemon. I feel like we've already gotten twice as much out of Gen 7 than we did with 6.

Could they? Sure. Will they? No. This announcement alone will print money for them. I don't think we'll get a mainline game on Switch until next holiday at the earliest. This year is Monster Hunter. That'll keep systems selling.
