Yep, the only two remaining locations in my state are closing. Maybe they’ll have a liquidation sale on their board games, wouldn’t mind picking up a few. I remember as a kid going to that place and being amazed by the giant wall of board games to choose from. Unfortunately they never renovated the store with the times and it slowly morphed into a creepy warehouse, I tend to think of that South Park episode about Blockbuster.

Closing 20% of your stores isn't that bad for a chapter 11. Most of the retail establishments that were taken over by private equity close every last store, with little to no chance of using store gift cards at a liquidation sale. Circuit City, Linens N Things, etc.

When Borders folded up, I rolled in there and got the whole Dune series for 10% off with A Dance With Dragons. Losing them was truly a blow, but they did fall behind. Even with their proximity to my community college, it wasn't enough.

Originally I heard our local TRU wasn't supposed to close, but now it's on the list. Unfortunately, it's the last real toy store in the area not including the discount stores. First Hastings and now TRU.

Ah, Borders. I have fond memories of bringing my mom there to buy stuff with gift cards before the liquidation sales.

Barnes & Noble is unfortunately close behind. In a roundabout way, the independent bookstores survived longer.

I had hoped my TRU would be one of the ones to get American Girl, but they only did that to a couple in PGH and Philly. Stupid as those always get popup stores at the holidays. Central PA gets nothing.

ugh. Inevitable given that the buyout owners purchased largely with debt then saddled the debt onto the company, meaning it can't really reinvest in itself because it has to pay off the new owners' debt ... happens every time.

Just went and it doesn't include any Nintendo games. Tried 3DS games, tried Fire Emblem Warriors and Doom for Switch and no luck, they are excluded, this also includes Switch accessories.

Of course Pokemon cards are out of the question too. No Nintendo games and no Pokemon cards = absolutely nothing for me. Cya, Toys R Us.

I haven't stepped foot inside a Toys R Us in a few years. If they did go away, it would make me sad regardless. I was there all the time as a kid to buy Atari 2600 games. They easily had the best selection at the time.

I'm not surprised, and I'm not too bothered by this. They have a nice selection, yes, but I've always felt that their service and prices sucked.

Bankrupt retailer Toys "R" Us may shut all its US stores as soon as next week, according to several reports.

They've always had a pretty decent selection, overall. But their prices are positively repulsive! And you can bet that the liquidation "sales" will begin at 10% off the MSRP.... which is pretty much no sale at all.

yeah, best to shop around, request price match, or watch their sales.
