I love the 3D version so much but I think it would look great in 4k.

Just occurred to me that this has a tenth anniversary next year and if it does hit UHD, hopefully it retains all the beautiful IMAX imagery even if that requires it be an IMAX Experience disc.

1 of the writers at HDTVTest made a custom HDR trailer with the original trailer. Looks pretty sweet.

...and if we ever get a 4K release, PLEASE preserve the shifting aspect ratios.

It would be great to get this and the first Tron on 4K.

This is one of the last unannounced catalog titles I really have an active desire to own in 4K. It can't be announced soon enough, but unfortunately its lack of a 4K version on Disney+ doesn't inspire confidence that a release is imminent.

On release I think it suffered a bit from a 3D backlash, people waking up from Avatar mania targeted it as the next tentpole 3D film. It does seem to have been gradually building up popularity since release though and perhaps a significant re release including 4K would be a good way to test that?

The film itself was I felt a little short in the middle act, feels like a good setup that shifts a bit too quickly to its climax but generally much better than I expected. Looks excellent with ironically a lot less CGI than you might expect and they do manage to give Bridges character a pretty strong dramatic arc rather than just playing on nostalgia, great soundtrack as well of course.

IIRC it was claimed that all movies on D+ would get 4K HDR transfers so the few that arenít yet would get released when ready, and we could already be seeing that with stuff like The Jungle Book.

Of course, Iím sure Disney is using viewing metrics to determine which titles to transfer first and Iím not sure Tron: Legacy is high on the list.

I worry Disney will ruin the stellar sound this movie has. It would be hard to trade improved PQ for inferior audio.

Exactly what I was thinking. That clipping is nasty so if there were one mix that I'd actually WANT to get Atmoused, it's this one.

PS

I do find it so funny that one of the main movies that people bang on about being this amazing IMAX experience was shot in 1080p HD. That's not a pop at anyone here in particular, and this still looks amazing, it just gives me a giggle is all

I thought it was shot on RED 4K? Huh. Could’ve sworn they were making a big deal about how huge the 4K 4K file was, like 400GB or something lol.

Ahhh, never mind. Sony F35s it was.

Yep. 1080p on the F35, and the Phantom for the high speed stuff. Th-th-that's all folks!

PS

Random file size related factoid: the full 120 4K 3D master of Gemini Man is 92 TERABYTES.
