Is this going to happen at all? It's been 9 years since the movie came out. 4K quality of this movie would look so great since the movie is at a perfect 16x9 ratio (1.78:1)

I'm not sure I entirely agree its "perfect" because of being fullscreen 16:9, but I think it's a shoe-in this will only come out when Avatar 2 is coming to cinemas! And, yes, it will be freakin' amazing PQ and with some of the best HDR on the format. It is a lock.

It already received an HDR DV grade. It’s a sub 2K DI, but with DV, it should look pretty incredible. 2020 is my bet on when we’ll see it.

I bet it will drop before the first sequel comes out.

The BD still looks phenomenal. I put it in the other day, initially just to sample the PQ on my OLED and 4k player, and ended up watching all of it. Haven't seen it in years. Not a huge fan of the story, but the world-building and military tech stuff is first rate. The effects are still very impressive a decade later. I can't imagine how much better a UHD would look, but I'm sure a nice HDR pass would help.

Sadly Fox has not done a Dolby Vision UHD yet. The 40th anniversary of Alien is getting HDR 10+ or so I've heard.

Yeah Avatar will never be DV (on disc, anyway). Nor will it really need to. Die Hard is a pleasing HDR10 transfer. Predator is amazing. They are getting a good track record with HDR10 titles.

I just hope they go all out with the HDR and don't make it too subtle as it's a vibrant as hell visual spectacle which could REALLY stretch its legs on UHD.

For me, 99% of the value of Avatar is its 3D. If and when a 3D spec is added to UHD Blu-ray (please?!), I'd spare a thought for Avatar.

I'm still gonna be there day 1 for a UHD. The visuals are gorgeous in either dimension, and with the usual upscale & HDR pass it could look seriously saucy.

A hundred times this!

I never liked Avatar for the movie itself. Matter of fact, it's hard for me to sit through the end. But with this being of importance to 3D in general etc...

Without 3D, this movie completely loses its reason to excist for me.

I expect to see this with the lead up to Avatar 2. Why not?

Yeah the visual effects and world building for mine is still brilliant and worthy of ownership on it's own. But maybe that view is askew since I never watched it in 3D? I did purchase it in that format recently, though...

Kinda wanna stay my next viewing for -hopefully- a 4K disc this year, or viewing it 2D BD on OLED if not out this year in UHD.

So no 4K remastered release for the 10th anniversary. Who didn't see it coming?

Alita has DV both on disc and digital, Ad Astra has DV on digital.

Kinda hope/expect this one to drop slightly before Avatar 2.
