Default Blaster Master Zero 2

http://blastermaster-zero.com/en/zero2/

A surprise announcement from Inti Creates during the last Nindies Presentation, but about an hour in, I'm stuck. Does anyone know how to get back to Sophia in a situation like this?

In the previous game by standing on a save point and pressing X you could call Sophia back, but I can't get to any save point, and now if I reset the game or press "retry" it starts me off exactly there, where Sophia is above an not reachable. Is there a workaround or am I doomed to restarting the game?

Is it me or is this pretty hard right from the get-go? The first overhead part beat me down pretty good.

Yeah, I liked the first game a lot, but lots of people thought it was too easy. Reviews all say this one is WAY harder, so I've skipped it for now (and maybe for good). I just don't have the patience/frustration tolerance for hard games that I used to.

It’s the overhead weapons that’s the main issue. I only spent about 45 minutes with it but I hated all the shot variants.

I ended up starting over since there seemed like nothing I could do. At least I knew where to go and it took about 40 minutes or so to return to that point.

The difficulty is increased, but thankfully so. Not impossible once you learn the patterns.

Didn’t notice your question but you could have used the frog in the pause screen to return back to Sophia.

Beat this with the “bad” ending this morning. Going to pause a bit before doing what needs done for the better ending as that planet boss was a bit of a pita with its regenerating health.

That was an option?! Oh well... now I know.
I did finish the game with the good ending, by the way.
