Default The star wars saga is almost certainly coming to 4k ultra hd in 2020

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/column...ts/080819-1500

Now... if you read the headline above, you’ll recall I mentioned that Star Wars is almost certainly coming in 4K Ultra HD next year. This is something we’ve been saying here at The Bits for quite a while now, and those titles have been listed in our 4K Ultra HD Release List here for several months. This is obviously not yet official, but I think it IS further evidence of the truth of next year’s 4K plans: Information has begun to leak from retailers (including cover artwork) that all 10 of the existing Star Wars films are going to be re-issued on regular Blu-ray in September (yes, next month) and I’d bet the official announcement is due any day now (possibly at the D23 Expo in a couple weeks). This would indicate that Disney is taking one last bite at the apple on regular Blu-ray with these films. And per the studio’s Marvel strategy, all 10 of the films are being released with brand new matching cover artwork. Here’s at look at that leaked artwork (and a shout-out is due here to Jordan Maison, who appears to have spotted them in the wild first)...

Star Wars is about all that remains after Disney's mass 4K releasing this year.

Great. More speculation from Bill Hunt. When did he say The Abyss was coming out? Oh yeah. That’s right.

It’s not much of a stretch to say that there is going to be a big box set of the Skywalker saga once the last film comes out. It’s also a pretty safe bet that it will be 4K as well. This isn’t news from the Digital Bits. Just a reach for clicks.

Is this like the third thread of these? There’s already 2 threads that I know of in the 4K wishlist thread.

Disney+ will be in 4K and Star Wars will be heavily featured. It’s a no brainer.

the original star wars movies in 4k wont look that great anyways since they are so old and outdated with technology , the last jedi is the best looking star wars movie.

The remasters in 4K are going to be great. I like the de-specialized editions but they lack that fine polish.

I have very few problems with the Special Editions as they progress, meaning that by the time we get to the end of Jedi, i start losing interest. And Lucasfilm need to go back and re-render the entry into Mos Eisley, as it still looks like something cut from a pre-rendered video game sequence. Third time is the charm, ILM!

Most of those SE CGI shots will look like ass in 4K, it wasn't great on the big screen in '97 either.

I hope this pushes some decision maker to go with the original theatrical cuts instead so we can enjoy crisp high res goodness.

That doesn't mean 4K will be available on day one, and it doesn't mean the SW films will be 4K at all. See the DC Universe app as an example.

Also, did Disney+ ever disclose if HDR would be offered with their 4K titles?

What for? Star Wars is dead. Virtually nobody even remembers it. Liking it is just an affectation that's kept up by a minority of people.

Total guess:

To maximise money, which I think Disney like to do, I think they'll release the existing SEs (maybe with updated CG again, I hope) in 4K now, then if we are ever going to get the 'UOT' they put them in a big saga box set next year when TRoS releases, then release them individually late next year.

Who are we kidding? They had us already at "Star Wars on 4K UHD". We'll buy the crap out of them no matter what. The cases could be made out of smellable dog doo and we would salivate.

*goes to freezer to grab some cold hard cash for these movies*

Disney+ will have 4K HDR. But I would not expect a lot of UHD content, at least right away.

Anyway, I think it would make much more sense to release the UHD versions prior to the release of Ep 9 in theaters.
