Default Walmart not selling Disney Blus (YMMV)

I noticed the last few months that none of my local Walmarts are selling new Disney Blu-rays, and finally last night I saw this posted in the new release section.

First Amazon and now Walmart?

This definitely is not true for all Walmart locations. I've seen Walmarts with the huge Avengers Endgame cardboard display last week on YouTube videos.

All the Wal-marts I visit (4 of them) have continued to sell Disney titles including the new Avengers film.

I lasted visited my local Walmart on the 15th and it had a large display for Avengers Endgame, all formats, centered in front of all of the check-out lanes.

Plenty of other Disney blu-rays, and not just MCU titles, were located in the movie section as usual.

My local Walmart is in a small city, population 25,899, in an otherwise rural area- nothing special about it in any way.

That is weird. I just bought Endgame there for my nephew.

My Wal-Mart is the opposite and all they seem to have are Disney DVD/BD/UHDs. Everything else is an empty slot with a shelf label that is supposed to have something there but doesn't. The media department also gets smaller each time I go in.

I wonder if those cardboard displays are the bone of contention. I can’t think of anything that would affect specific and individual stores other than a Disney rep showing up and not liking the positioning of one of their shippers and/or finding the shipper missing altogether.

The actual displaying of titles should be pretty much entirely planogrammed by corporate, though I suppose a Disney rep may have found empty shelves too. I don’t see a rogue Walmart manager selling Disney titles below their minimum pricing requirements either. If they broke street date I don’t think their point of sale system would allow the purchase to go through and that wouldn’t really fit with their comment about Walmart leadership seeing their requirements as unreasonable.

This is probably an isolated incident. This single store did something to anger them and they’re being penalized.

When I was still living in Texas (earlier this year), I had two Walmarts within 5 mins of me. I'd say about 40% of both of their movie sections were Disney.

This is so weird, IU've been to 4 different Walmarts and not a single one had any newer release Disney movies. This has been consistent since Captain Marvel or Dumbo. Which ever came out first. I had to pick the 2 up elsewhere.

I find the wording very strange. "Walmart's leadership". Very vague and could be defined as Walmart as a corporation, instead of just the individual store's manager.

I would say that Walmart as a whole has a pretty good relationship with Disney. Their stores are so chock full of merchandise, could you imagine them losing licensing to sell Disney stuff? Ha. My local walmarts have Endgame. so it must be a specific store's management. I wonder if they wrote up that sign locally, a disgruntled employee. Upset maybe they didn't get an exclusive packaging, or that they are being told if they want the movie they have to have the specific signage or display.

Edit: One of the 3 walmarts near me even has a dedicated Marvel endcap, and a dedicated Disney endcap. Pretty sure I could find almost any Disney movie I'd want there. So it's gotta be locally pissed off managers.

Perhaps the store broke street date? When I worked at a media retailer during college, that was a BIG no-no.

One of the five local Walmarts had no endgame on release day. It was the same one that is putting antitheft devices on all the 4ks and some of the blus. It's the store where all the local college kids can ride the bus too. Perhaps it has something to do with high loss stores.

That memo is kind of vague, it would be good to know what policy Walmart feels like it can't comply with.

I find the "quickly typed and printed on my Windows 98 PC" aesthetic odd too.

That little "Merchandise" tab/image thrown-in to espouse legitimacy. Don't get me started on the TAPE!

EDIT: No disrespect to the OP, but..."Indoor...Chicken" what? What's behind that tape? Why are you holding the paper, which includes the tape? Could you have taken the picture without holding it? If so, what was it taped-to?

Last edited by strumdogg; 08-23-2019 at 04:23 AM. Reason: TAPE!!!
