You can just "edit" your original post. You don't need to make a reply.

I know, I just can't believe I forgot about it.

I also I like Love Hina but I don't remember seeing that until the 2000's.

Probably because it debuted in 2000.

Wrong thread. This should've been in "The Anime Blu-ray Video Quality Thread". But, oh well.

Didnít realize it was anime back then and didnít know who Akira Toriyama was.
This post is taking me back. I remember watching Sailor Moon on TV and loving it. I knew it was Japanese, but didn't understand the concept of anime quite yet. What followed was the original 13 episodes of Dragon Ball (at that point I knew what anime was) and Technoman (the English version of Tekkaman Blade). I would love for Discotek to release Dragon Warrior/Quest.

My first DVD purchase ever before I even had a DVD player was Record of Lodoss War OVA. I was used to seeing like 2 episodes for $30 on VHS. Having entire series with both Japanese and English language on same disc - mind blown.
This was beginning of my addiction...
Bought pretty much every anime DVDs until Pioneer/Geneon went under.

Still, dvd was 3-5 episodes for $15-20. Getting 1 season with limited art box would mean about $150-$200.
Now Iím seeing entire patlabor series for $70, Fist of Northstar, Mazinger, Tetsujin 28. Release them all and Iíll buy them all. Especially the giant robot anime!! Personally, I really want Voltes V and Combattler.
My first anime purchases were used VHS tapes of Ranma 1/2 OVA Volume 6 and Maison Ikkoku TV Volume 1. Each tape was $10 for 2 episoes and English dubbed. I wanted the first KOR OVA tape, but the comic book store only had the 2nd for $35. I actually bought a DVD player because anime was cheaper to an extent on DVD (the Record of Lodoss War example was the VHS dubbed boxset was $100 and the subbed box set was $130. The DVD set with both was $60. The Anime Works sets were cheaper too. Haunted Junction was $25 for 2 episodes and a total of 6 volumes for $125. The DVD complete collection was $40. That takes me back.

Doomed metropolis. Cool anime. But not for children.

Fast forward to a few years ago, and the husband was convinced to start selling some of this stuff at the local anime convention out here in San Jose, Fanime. They'll have two binders full of trading card sleeves, which are filled with little photo copies of the utterly vast inventory of posters. I easily spent just over $500 in just posters, as they usually sell for $10-$50 a piece. (Arcadia of my Youth was $80,but I had to have it.) I never see these old posters for sale, and a bought doubles of the Orange Road and Ikkoku that they had.
Wow, those posters (if you're referring to the typw shown a few post above yours) were around $2 to $2.50 apiece, depending on how many you bought, at various places in Manhattan's Chinatown.

I'm fairly certain I'm the biggest OG poster junkie on here I'm not seeing the other posters you're mentioning though. What's kinda neat is that the genuine Japanese market posters, a lot of them have licensor stickers on them like scale figures. I can't say for sure, but the posters from Chinatown were/are most likely bootleg and/or reprints.

(But back when I was younger and didn't know any better I bought all kinds of anime items in the 80's in SF Chinatown.)

Anyone remember VCDs?

I agree, most likely boots.
I still have quite a few VCDs. Various Dragonball series, Ghibli films, some Celestial Shaw Brothers flicks they didn't deem dvd worthy, and god knows what else.
