They're much smaller markets. Like in the UK, I've heard 1,000 units can be a good seller, meanwhile here, that would be bombing, and also couldn't justify a dub (you need way more than 3,000 units for a dub).

Don't know, but the fact we never saw a release tells you how popular it was, as in not popular enough for AoA to bother doing anything. It was popular in Japan, but that popularity didn't translate over here.

1000 copies is ALs whole CE print run (Bar Exceptions like Your Name that was 2K) So for 1000 copies to sell it means a very good seller. Love Live Sunshine only had 500 units as the idol merch sold but the show didnt do too well. So that shows how much smaller we are.

I was referring to Bunny Girl Senpai.

The number of DVD/BD sales required lowered in the last years, as revenues from streaming-subscriptions increased.

OT Germany:
In Germany a great seller hits 10k units (Tokyo Ghoul Vol. 1 took 6 months to sell 6k BD + 4k DVD). However even low sellers with print runs as low as 2k units (1k BD + 1k DVD) get dubbed, however the average sale price is much higher in Germany (~100Ä for 1 cour, ~150Ä for 2 cour).
Ordinal Scale LE sold 3,000 units in Germany + unknown number or SE.
In 2018 only Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-Chan and some DVD-only 18+ titles got sub-only physical releases in Germany. If an anime doesn't justify dubbing-costs, it most likely doesn't justify for a print-run either.

I may as well mention it here since it's related to Aniplex of America, they recently revealed trailers for the following titles:

CENCOROLL CONNECT
Cencoroll 1 & 2. Summer 2019.

Do You Love Your Mom and Her Two-Hit Multi-Target Attacks?
One of the many isekai series airing this Summer 2019. Series is animated by J.C.Staff.

Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note
Revealed many months ago, but this series is airing this Summer. Yuki Kajiura is also composing the OP/ED songs.

In addition, Anime Expo is here in a few weeks. I am curious to see what gets announced.

Obligatory “it’s been 84 years...” gif for Cencoroll. Hopefully this movement will result in both making it to BD here. I loved the first one and would have no issue going in blind on the second.

This one for me.

Edit: Probably Pancreas too. I've never heard of that before but checked trailers and looks like something I'll like.

Rascal and Pancreas for me. F/SN Lost Butterfly I will be importing from Japan, just as I did with the first set.

Naturally, right after I ended up getting the full UK CE Kill la Kill set, aniplex decides to do a full box afterall. Oh well, looks like the complete box is pretty bare bones, only mentions one booklet.

It seems any mention of Bunny Girl Senpai's home video has been removed from Twitter and its announcement page. The listing on TRSI is still active, so I don't know what's up. It's quite possible people complained over the lack of dub and so Aniplex may delay it to include it (and if this is the case, watch the SRP go up).

I do feel its a niche show, I doubt a dub will improve its market much. Monogatari does well sub only.

While I certainly don't want it dubbed, it's only 13 episodes so wouldn't be the undertaking to dub that Monogatari would've been.

BD info is still on the official website? https://rascaldoesnotdream.com/bd/

I hope it's still coming; it's the first Aniplex release in years I want.

I'm shocked they're not splitting the release into two. (JP release was five.)

Interesting point. That page says the US release is two discs. I thought Aniplex always(?) used the same number of discs for US releases, even if they weren't completely identical i.e. added subtitles (and dub if there).

I mean, 13 episodes on two discs is what anyone else would do here, though I'm sure this is 7+6 instead of 9+4 or whatever.

Edit: 13, not 12. I double-checked and it's 13 episodes; I just remember 12 since that's what most short shows are.

They use the same encodes 95+ percent of the time.
