Default Base has a sale on 88 Films

Never heard of these guys (Base, not 88 Films), but the prices don't look too bad - at least at first glance.

88 Films Sale!

Some really good deals here and went a bit crazy....

Every disk I added to the cart ended up being GBP 5.91 and the shipping was GBP 1.49 for a total 7.40. It was kind of strange because most disks had variable pricing online, but EVERY disk ended up being 7.40 total. Not sure what happened here, but I'll take it.

Well, that's interesting - there were a couple of discs listed for 14 pounds that are now showing as 7. I might have to pick up a couple more!

I put together an order over about an hour, so I'm assuming the prices were dropping during. There are a few that were still 14 when I was done, but took another drop overnight.

Ha, I know what you're talking about. I went with:

Title: Hitch-Hike [Blu-ray] -
Title: Man From Deep River (Blu-ray) -
Title: Live Like a Cop; Die Like a Man [Blu-ray] -
Title: Blastfighter [Blu-ray] -
Title: The Bogeyman (Slasher Classics) [Blu-ray] -
Title: Bloodstained Shadow [Blu-ray] -
Title: Messenger of Death (Blu-ray) -
Title: Scarecrows (Blu-ray) -
Title: Invasion U.S.A. (Blu-ray) -
Title: Flesh Eating Mothers (Blu-Ray) -
Title: SS Experiment Camp [Blu-ray] -

I waffled on Burial Ground, as I think I may go with Severin.

Any particular reason you went with the 88 version of Invasion USA over the Shout! version? I know nothing about the 88 disc, but I am going to assume that it's pretty bare bones.

And yeah, I had Burial Ground in my cart too - but I need another disc like I need a hole in my head. I might pick up Messenger of Death before Friday. The Kino disc is also pretty bare bones, so I might as well go with the cheapest version on the market if that is the case.

This order will likely precipitate a BLU moratorium at my house, and I'm expecting some rule like I have to get rid of 2 if I order 1.

This a a great Cannon film, and I do love 80s Chuck Norris. The 88 disk does have a few extras including a different Bruner interview than the Shout. Price helped with the decision, but I was leaning toward the Logan commentary. Shout has a Zito commentary which I don't know anything about. I'm not trying to sell you on this, but for just under $10 you get 2 interviews (50 minutes total) a booklet on the composer, and a pretty good commentary track. I do like Shout, it was just harder to pull the trigger on their price....

The Severin has the 2K scan which some say looks better, but they are both chocked full of features. I really dig this movie, and will think about it which version I really want.

I've almost bought the Kino version of Messenger of Death about 3 times, but just never could pull the trigger.

Any word on Frogs, Messenger of Death, Friday Foster or River of Death having better PQ than the US releases? I would assume they are from the same masters, and 88 has never been a bastion of top notch encoding, though they are generally adequate in my opinion. I know that 88's Prison loses most if not all of the features from the Shout release and River of Death has a long interview while the US release has a commentary.

With this and the Target sale I am spending way too much.

I picked up:

Sahara
Puppet Master 4
Puppet Master 5
Flesh Eating Mothers
Scalps
Alien 2 - On Earth
Invasion U.S.A. - to go with my Shout Factory release since it has the Bey Logan Commentary
Eskimo Nell

I already had everything else. I think I paid 11.99 for Dead Next door from 88 Films store, but I did get the O-card and booklet.

I've also go Kino's River of Death, and Shout's Prison.

Just as an aside, I checked on Amazon.uk and found a few of the newer Italian titles cheaper (& Ghost Town). Someone mentioned them in the official 88 thread. I couldn't find the Eskimo Nell blu on Base's site, but I found it on Amazon for pretty cheap.

Can you see how much shipping will be without entering your credit card info? Trying to figure out how much it will cost to ship to Canada.

Looks like shipping to "North America" is universal - so Canada vs the US, it doesn't matter. It's all 1.69

EDIT - also it looks like some titles are unavilable and some have been added. I don't recall seeing Tromeo and Juliette on my previous pass. 7 bucks for a loaded with extras blu? Yeah, I might have to jump on that.

Ok thanks. And judging from the comments in this thread it doesn't make a difference, dollar wise, if you make 1 bulk order or multiple smaller orders.

Yup, that's correct - the 1.69 is applied per disc, so the price is the same with 5 one-disc orders or 1 five-disc order.

Surprised that Alien 2: On Earth is the second best selling blu-ray title at the moment. The movie is atrocious lol!

Pulled the trigger on Blastfighter and I might blind buy Burial Ground as well

I just saw it last week, and would agree. It really didn't seem to want to go anywhere, then they were spelunking. It's kind of fun in a bad way...

I'm going to give base another look tonight because some I was looking at seemed to disappear wile some new we're added.

When does this sale end? Just noticed the thread a few seconds ago.

Also, I'm not seeing 5.91 blus. Most appear to be 7.09?
