https://www.pcmag.com/news/367776/re...-arrives-may-7

We've been hearing about a disc-less Xbox One console for a while now, with reports back in March that it was set to launch in May. Now we have a specific release date and should expect it to go on sale on May 7.

As Thurrot reports, new images leaked of the disc-less Xbox One S, which will officially be known as the Xbox One S All Digital. The images were discovered by Winfuture.de and show a console that looks just like the standard Xbox One S, but with an all white front due to a lack of the disc-loading slot.

These are the same people that missed XBone and think that 1 is the best number to follow 360.

I was expecting this to be both smaller and cheaper than the Xbox One S, but it's neither. This makes me happy as now it will certainly fail and no one will try another all-digital console for quite a long time.

The best thing I took away from that official reveal was that game pass is getting bundled with Gold for $15 a month. https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articl...launches-may-7

$250 for SAD is too much though. Maybe at retail it will get discounted anyway but it's still a lot considering it loses out on the disc drive. I was expecting $150-$200

Larry said that it would "always be $50 less than the S with disc" in the reveal but that's not the case right now for some reason. Maybe once it gets into retail channels that's up to the individual franchises?

MS is charging more probably with the explanation that it comes with 3 pre-loaded games that are 'valued' at $100 or something like that.

I am sure there will be a bare bones, no-games-included unit later that will be <200.

S.A.D. is a great acronym but it can't beat XBOne (still makes me laugh).

I think Xbox One D would have been easier to say but maybe MS feared it would be labeled as XBoneD.

Either way, the console was ďbonedĒ this generation. It didnít need the name to help advertise that fact.

This is a joke. They're cutting the disc drive? My Xbox One won't play my mp4 files off of a USB HDD anymore. I keep getting an error no matter what app I play them in. They play fine on my PC. The disc drive is the only way I have left to watch my movies on this thing (other than through streaming apps). I don't game on it. I use it for a media hub. What good are they if I can't even watch my discs on it anymore? ...And it's priced the same as the version with the disc drive. What advantage does it have over me building a little mini HTPC?

Well then it’s a good thing they’re still going to offer consoles with drives. This console is a choice, not the standard.

It seems while Phil Spencer is making great strides towards success of the brand, MS marketing has not learned any lessons; they are still too focused on short term profit instead of building stronger customer base (which in long term, brings profit).
