Default Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 Blu-ray

I figured I would start up a new thread rather than posting this in the previous Star Blazers/Space Battleship Yamato 2199 thread, but the release date is fast approaching for the second series Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 on Blu-ray from Funimation with English dubs due out March 26, 2019.

As most already know, Funimation released 2199 last year as a two volume set of all 26 episodes that make up the 2199 series. They did a great job and released it as either a limited edition box set for Part 1 and then a Part 2 that fit inside the limited edition Part 1 box. Funimation is basically doing the same for 2202, releasing it in two parts, with part 1 featuring either a limited edition box set with extras, or a standalone release. Part 1 will contain the first 13 episodes, Part 2 to be released later this year will contain the final 13 episodes.

What I have noticed is the Funimation webstore has the part 1 box set at a very attractive price, only $42.49 or $32.49 for the standard release (links below) and the final box art with extras are shown too. These prices are much cheaper than RightStufAnime or Amazon as well. I am not sure if that box set price is an error or if Funimation is perhaps making it up to fans regarding the 2199 part 2 release delays but the $42.49 price is quite low and the extras are well worth the $10 price difference compared to the standard release.

Anyways here are the links below to pre-order from Funimation:

2202 Part 1 Standard Edition:

RS originally had their LE pre-order price at $42.49 like Funi's website does, so maybe the price still has a chance to drop back down? But I honestly don't know much about RS's price changes and how/why they do them...

Least expensive, non-sale price TRSI had it for was roughly $64. $58 if you have GotAnime.

I scored 2202 during the holiday FUNimation sale from Rightstuf for $42.49 so same as the sale price FUNi store has it.

Without a sale happening, TRSI will sell at the $64 price until it is released, then I think about a week later they bump the price up. At which point it is best to just buy next time they have a sale (or get it from FUNi now)

When I saw the $42 pre-order price for 2202 LE Part 1 I just thought it seemed awfully low, compared to what 2199 LE Part 1 was at time of pre-order. It seemed to me that the current RSA and Amazon pre-order prices seemed more about where it would be but I won't argue with Funimation's store pre-order price currently, unless its a glitch and they rise the price up, but if they do, perhaps they will honor those that pre-order before that/if it happens.

I got the normal edition from TRSI when it first went live during their holiday sale for only $32.49. I don't really need all the other bells and whistles - just the discs please.

Damn, I'm really digging how they're nudging the story arc from the original. Desslok is turning out to be way more complex and I'm really curious if they get him to the Heel/Face turn point. Although I loved that him and Wildstar got more screen time together than just that one showdown. It's setting up a strong rivalry between the two.

I know it's a work in progress, but damn I want the third season STAT. Well, as soon as the Star Force whups Zordar and the Comet Empire.

I'm really looking forward to this since I passed on the Japanese release due to lack of subs.

Also, in case anyone didn't know, Dark Horse Comics recently announced they have the licensing rights to distribute the Yamato 2199 manga in English. I believe the original Japanese series has not finished, Dark Horse will release them as Omnibus' with each containing three of the Japanese volumes.

So Omnibus #1 from Dark Horse will cover Japanese manga volumes #1-3. It will be out in August, retail price is $19.99, would not surprise me if we see it cheaper as it gets closer to release: https://www.amazon.com/Star-Blazers-...r=1-1-fkmrnull

Omnibus #2 will cover volumes #4-6, due out in November: https://www.amazon.com/Star-Blazers-...r=1-2-fkmrnull

More than likely when the manga series concludes we will see additional volumes from Dark Horse, hopefully in 2020.

Also, Seven Seas has the original Cosmoship Yamato manga coming soon. It was suppose to be out around last Halloween but slipped to sometime in the the next couple of months.

Seven Seas Entertainment is proud to announce the license acquisition of Space Battleship Yamato: The Classic Collection, Leiji Matsumoto’s original manga trilogy—adapted as Star Blazers on American TV—collected into one beautiful hardcover omnibus!

The human race has one year left to live. Aliens known as the Gamilas have attacked Earth, poisoning it with radioactivity and driving humans underground. As humankind grows sicker by the day, their final hope is the space battleship Yamato–constructed from secret plans and equipped with advanced technology. Its mission: to reach a distant planet and bring back a cure to save humanity. Will the ship and its crew rescue the Earth in time?

Seven Seas will publish the manga series Space Battleship Yamato: The Classic Collection for the first time in North America in print as one large trim hardcover omnibus. The book will be released on October 30, 2018 for $29.99 US

Yeah I have been watching that as well, release date keeps getting bounced around, Amazon now shows April 9th of this year. Back around November Amazon had a $10 code for books going on and this was around $18 or so, but I didn't jump on pre-ordering, but I suspect it will drop down as Amazon is now showing it at the standard MSRP price.

Thanks for the heads-up on the SBY manga omnibus release Kinsella5.
Dang, they're in paperback.
Wish they would have gone HC like they (DarkHorse) are doing with Berserk.

I'll keep an eye on the Seven Seas release as well.
I see RS has it up for pre-order for $23usd.

I already pre-ordered the Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 Part 1 LE.

I do have the Japanese version of 2199.

Do you know who has the rights of the original yamato? They should release the original Space Battleship Yamato series and movies in Bluray. C'mon Discotek make this happen

Voyager Entertainment still maintains the video rights for the original Yamato. While we might someday see the Japanese version in america, the masters for Star Blazers are in a wreck and not blu worthy.

I'd rather have remastered and re-dubbed releases minted from the Japanese materials. Give Star Blazers to a whole new generation and whatnot.

I dont mind the paperback format, it helps to keep the price point low, hardcover would be nice but it would mean a higher price. I think the $20 price for one Omnibus containing three of the manga volumes is lower than I thought it would be, I figured Dark Horse would have them at $29.99 each.

The original series was released on blu-ray in Japan but it costs a fortune. I wish it would get a release in the US. StarBlazers is likely to never happen sadly due to the condition of the material but the original Yamato episodes are already remastered - they just need a US release (with English subs of course - the Japanese discs had no English subs as usual). Same for the movies.

as far as I know, only the first season of Uchuu Senkan Yamato is on Blu Ray. Along with the movies. They have never gone back to remaster and release the second and third series.

Looks like a couple of days ago the Bandai channel put up a bunch of trailers and talkshows (sadly in Japanese) . . . and this scene from down the road. It's the (spoilers for a 45 year old show, but better safe than sorry)
[Show spoiler]Wildstar vs Desslok confrontation and Desslok's Heel/face turn.

2202 Part 1 releases next week on March 26th. I just finally got around to pre-ordering the Limited Edition set, which is still cheaper by far on the Funimation website, only $42.49 plus $5 shipping. RightStufAnime is currently $63.74, Amazon is $71.50, and Best Buy is $79.99.

I actually received my 2202 LE on this past Monday. Preordering from Rightstuf has advantages at times.
