Same here. Although I was 9. My best friend had a sleepover party for his b-day, and he invited me and one other. The highlight was going to this movie! Never forgot how scary it seemed at that time and age. Haven't seen it since.

I too saw it back in the mid 70's (on HBO I believe) and it left an indelible impression.

I saw this on the (IIRC) pan and scan Hen's Tooth DVD over a decade ago. Still held up wonderfully for me- though obviously part of that is due to simple nostalgia.
Even so, Pierce's films have a wonderful unique vibe to them that to most modern audiences would probably seem woefully dated. For me that's a large part of the appeal.

This is great news, and I'll look forward to an announcement of a Bd almost as much as I anticipated The Changeling.

From the last version I saw, this absolutely needs s restoration and I've always loved the legend of this film. Can't wait to see the release.

Apparently none of the DVD or streaming versions are authorized or legal. This should definitely represent a significant step up.

I saw the film in the 1970s right after its original theatrical run, and 40-odd years later, it's still an effective horror film. I've always liked the pseudo-documentary feel of the movie, it helped that Charles Pierce used locals in the film to give it more of a cinema-verite feel to it, but its also an atmospheric creature feature that I still enjoy to this day. I'm looking forward to seeing the restoration of the film on blu ray, and hopefully, we'll see the other Bigfoot-style creature feature from the '70s, "The Creature from Black Lake" soon on blu ray as well.

Had heard about this for years but never saw it until the recent Joe Bob Briggs marathon on Shudder. I enjoyed it. The old murky image quality contributed to its atmosphere, so I hope that isn't lost with a restoration.

Saw it in the theater as a kid, too, and it was very effective. This movie made quite a stir at the boxoffice, especially in the south. There are two sequels, "Return to Boggy Creek" (1977) which I don't think Pierce had anything to do with and stars Mary Ann from Gilligan's Island, and Pierce returned with "Boggy Creek 2" in the 80's.

What other 70's bigfoot movies remain unreleased on Blu outside of CFBL? There's also that horrible biker one called "Bigfoot" with John Carradine, the tv-movie "Snowbeast", and an Italian one called "Yeti". There were a slew of documentary films like "Sasquatch" (Code Red) - "Legend of Bigfoot", etc.

But Legend of Boggy Creek seems to remain the one most-loved, nostalgia-related or not.

I really hope they know what they're doing with this restoration and don't DNR it to death. They may try to get rid of all the grain if they are inexperienced.

Good point. Someone should reach out to her before she makes a big rookie mistake.

No. The sequel is a terrible cash-in. The first is pretty effective for what it is.

Finally!!! I heard the original negative went missing at Technicolor years ago - perhaps it happened when pan & scan prints were made for television. I'm amazed they recovered them!
