Yeah I remember thinking the same about the first movie. But I do remember the "bugs" scene and the rescue scene with the singing vines as being pretty decent 3D and maybe that stuck my mind. Maybe the 2nd movie does have better overall scale but I don't have any scene stick in my mind in the same way. It doesn't help that it is also constantly reminding me that as a man "cogito ergo bad"

I wouldn’t call it tame, especially not for Disney — there’s certainly nothing tame about the 3D during the Hero’s Duty sequences — but the 3D in the second film is definitely better overall and quite sublime actually. I really like both films, and hope to see another stereoscopic chapter sometime.

I would say that the Slaughter Race scenes are fantastic standouts. I would also say that the story is just fine; many of us could use some character growth and a little introspection.

If movie could be taken in isolation then I might have agreed with you. But this was just part of a decade long wave of mostly failed "masculinity redefinition" projects. If "growth" and "introspection" were what this movie was solely about then I definitely would agree with you. But it's not. So I don't.

Doesn’t have to be solely about that. I appreciated the useful story elements. In fact my son was just telling me how much this film helped him with his own outlook, and brought him to tears. I think “masculinity” just might survive.
