Fruits Basket didn't change anything.

Funimation released Blue Gender,Tenchi Muyo GXP,and Kiddy Grade on 8 DVDs.
Yu Yu Hakusho on 32 dvds.
Other stuff on 6 dvds.

ADV Films and Pioneer/Geneon released all it's 24-26 episode series on 7 DVDs a few things on 8.

What finally changed everything was Media Play,Suncoast and other media places going out of business.

And

Pioneer/Geneon,Central Park Media,Urban Vision,Tokyopop etc... going away.
Viz canceling series.
ADV Films dying but it was able to resurrect as Sentai Filmworks.

Yeah... no. Not at all. Fruity Basket was a VERY early release and the release format with more eps per disc for more money failed miserably. This release was also the reason why FUNi DVDs SUCKED for many years afterwards, as they obviously just left the encoder dialed into to those settings.

Yes, but had it not been for Fruits Basket (which was a success not sure how you figure it failed), Japanesee companies would not have seen that more episodes on a disc do sell well. Sure, we still got 3-4 episode discs, but that is due to the demands of the Japanese companies. Funimation was the first company trying to get them to break away from that precedent to show the Japanese industry that Americans prefer season sets.

The experiment with Fruits Basket failed. Your other comments lead me to think that you simply don't realise how long ago it was first released. Singles with 3-5 eps were the norm for many years after the first DVD release of Fruits Basket. I can tell you this with absolute certainty because I lived it.

I'm finished the first disc of BF Try. So far so good, but it doesn't seem as interesting as BF. It's still entertaining, its just lacking something that the first one had. At least Sekai is a pretty awesome character. And Fumina's SD Gunpla is pretty cool (and it's so cute ^_^).

As for the first BF, I wish it went into more detail about Arian.
[Show spoiler]Reiji and Mashita just go back to Arian at the end. It would have been nice if they had another scene or two in Arian after their return.

I agree with you completely on the subject of Reiji. More background, just a few scenes, would have been great.

I don't remember series box sets becoming a standard until at least the arrival Sentai. Who after ADV died, decided to change up their distribution system.

I recall Bandai being pretty radical when they rushed Gurren Lagann to DVD as Sub-only on 4 DVD releases. That was a crazy good value at the time.

Anyone else going to watch their copy of V Gundam in the original intended order?

Episode 2 (real episode 1)
Episode 3 (real episode 2)
Episode 4 (real episode 3)
Then episode 1 (real episode 4)

Although there is still the out of place 20 second or so narration acting like episode 4 was really meant to be episode 1 all along.

Nope, because it is a pain in the ass to jump around episodes on a disc. However, that is just dumb to do that.

Wow people have their copy of Victory already!

Can anyone confirm that past episode 11 (or was it 13?), when the series moved over to 13mm prints, the grain is all washed away from DNR? I read on other message boards that the first batch of episodes have glorious grain and the later has been DNR'd.

When I watch it, if I notice a change, I will let you know. Very rarely do I notice DNR compared to other people though because (except for Predator) it doesn't bother me.

Lol! I placed an order a week ago when it said "out of stock" and was surprised to see the order actually go through.
Sure enough I just received my shipping email!

I watched the first disc to Victory today, which covered the first 9 episodes. Overall, it was a lot better than I was anticipating, but it feels like nothing is happening yet. I know it's Gundam, and they always start slow, but usually by this point there is at least some plot progression. I still don't know jackshit about anything that is happening. Who are these people? Why is the Earth Federation not doing anything to stop the Zanscare Empire? Who is the Zanscare Empire? How did they come into power? Are they the remnants of the Crossbone Vanguard? Why are they executing random people? What do they want? How are Uso and gang illegal immigrants?

The episodes themselves were pretty good even though I really don't see why we need to have prequel episodes that lead up to the first episode. They could have easily told that story in the span of two episodes. Also, Cronicle Asher is hands down the worst Char clone ever! The man is a bumbling idiot and can't even do anything right even in a mobile suit. In fact, he isn't even worthy of being called a Char clone. He doesn't even wear a mask for any other reason than the Earth's environment annoys him.

As for the Victory Gundam, it's a cool design, but seems to be the weakest Gundam ever made as its body parts keep getting destroyed as if they were made of tissue paper. I guess the alternative would be it being indestructible no matter what touched it, but still, this is a Gundam, it shouldn't be falling to pieces just from being sneezed on.

BTW, is it just me, or do the mobile suits seem to be a lot smaller in this series?

Man, I think I complained a lot, but they really are just minor gripes I have right now about this series. I'm sure things will improve over the next 43 episodes, but I can already see why Tomino hated working on this show.
