There is a huge part of the US population that grew up on DC or Marvel comics. The means the multi-sequel story arc is present on a lot of them. Just like that cult 15 year Supernatural series.

The creator of the long-running series “Supernatural” and the time travel drama “Timeless” can trace his love of horror and ghost stories back to the book “The House with a Clock in Its Walls.” The spooky children’s mystery novel by John Bellairs quickly became Kripke’s favorite when he discovered it as a young boy.

Also Lucas Star Wars is part of the same superhero genre, like it or not, and they have leagues of comic books concerning their stories.

Another example is all the many WB DC Universe Animated Original Movies. From wiki

The DC Universe Animated Original Movies (also known as DC Universe Original Movies or DC Universe Movies) are a series of American direct-to-video superhero animated films based on the DC Comics characters and stories produced primarily by Warner Bros. Animation. The films are usually stand-alone projects that are either adaptations of popular works or original stories. From 2013 to 2021, the DC Animated Movie Universe was a sub-series featuring several movies that took place in a shared universe, influenced predominantly from The New 52. They are usually made for an older audience compared to the DC animated universe and other projects, and also featuring DCAU alumni such as Bruce Timm, who mainly served as executive producer or as producer until Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, before returning since Justice League: Gods and Monsters.

Since it first began with 2007's Superman: Doomsday, the series was well received being praised by fans, critics, and had consistently good sales.

Because WB was't that well off of they made most of their DC superhero movies as animations instead of live action, but there is still about 41 released, and you thought Marvel or Star Wars was too many.

Do you really miss all those many lower budget films based on multiple action based stars? Some of them were pretty cheesy, like Demolition man. I guess the Expendables series was their Hail Mary salute to this genre. I think what is hot now is the manga live action conversions. Example Alita: Battle Angel

The last "Superhero" movie I really liked was the movie Mortal. Different approach to the genre as it was far from a stylized cartoon, but still was rooted in mythology. Shot in Norway with beautiful scenery and has a killer 5.1 track.

You do realize that I was a HD DVD supporter in the format war, so go ahead and knock yourself out. I haven't made a post at AVS in over 10 years. You think they archive posts that old?

Lee and I go back 15 years to the format war days. I was an HD DVD supporter too. Hard to believe it's been 13 years since the format war ended.

Anyway in one of the (now closed) forums, I had a sales thread, which I abandoned. But Lee kept it up till the very end. So I appreciate him doing here what he did for several years over there.

I'll be posting quarterly updates on Blu-ray/UHD progress (generally as the DEG reports come out) though. Also will keep updating the sales table and posting other stuff when I feel the urge. I don't consider myself solely responsible anymore for updating this thread and glad Lee can help.

That FMP-X10 sure turned out to be a brick. I bought 4 or 5 of their downloads for about $30 each and can't access any of them. Never thought they would steal back our purchases like that. But I guess that's one reason why we're fans of physical content.

I got the Samsung day one and didn't have much to complain about it really. It did the job. I got the Oppo player later, a few months after they came out. I have the 203 hooked up, but still have a sealed 205 tucked away.

I'm somewhat the same way about my D-VHS D-Theater player and 5 tapes. The D-Theater trailer at the beginning of each tape is a really cool visual with neat sound effect.

I still have all my HD DVDs. I treat it like an actual collection, it's pretty much complete. It has lots of nostalgic value to me as I was pretty involved in the format war from the get go. Crazy times back then, lol.

Sold mine while they still had some value but still lost well over $300 on it.

None of their players had discrete power on and off codes which made remote automation a PITA. There was/is a kludge workaround.

I got the Oppo player later, a few months after they came out. I have the 203 hooked up, but still have a sealed 205 tucked away.

Oh wow, I assume you know what it is worth on the market now. I started to buy two 203's, wish I had.

If you are not planning to sell that 205 for a humongous profit, then you should be using it. Something that nice should be enjoyed, IMO.

I'm undecided but leaning towards keeping it, although the resale value is tempting. I still have several unopened HD DVD players in the closet so it's familiar ground for me

I was pulling for HD DVD. I still think the dual sided disc would have been the best option for mainstream consumption, but who knows...
