Notice that Blu-ray is finally in positive territory (up 3.4%), after 2 years of being negative.

Here is the same chart posted 4 months ago (Blu-ray is the Blue line this time).

I wonder how consistent it would be if you overlaid either stock market performance or some other economic activity indicator for the same time period. I think it's weird how Blu sales dipped below DVD sales and then have since started growing again.

Wasn't a demand. I was merely wondering and did not mean to be at all rude about it. Of course I respect the work being done here.

It's because Blu-ray had a bad 12 month period from the latter part of 2014 to the latter part of 2015. Sales were very strong in Q4 2015 compared to 2014, and that's when it started to climb again. Remember Blu-ray sales are much more new release driven than DVD (even more now, as top movies have a very high unit share).

No worries, I didn't take it that way at all. On the contrary, I appreciated that somebody cared enough about my charts to ask for them.

Your post did not appear disrespectful at all, just yanking your chain a little . I can tell you that Bruce is not thin skinned and can hold his own in a debate if he so desires.

As of 5/14 and based on what HMM has reported, I'm getting +9.26% in revenue and +5.72% in units.

That's because you're including the week ending 1/2/16 and I'm not. Every 6 years or so you have to add a 53rd week to the year (since there are on average 52.18 weeks in the year) and I did that for 2014.

The guide that I use is that if whatever year (or quarter) that Tuesday is in, then that's the year (or quarter) it will be allocated to. YMMV.

Noooooo. I feel though like at least it seems like DVD is getting lower rates by comparison to last year than blu-ray is on average.

It's normal for DVD, during weeks with no good releases, to be down less than Blu-ray, since DVD is much less affected by new release sales.

UHD discs are now outselling 3D discs by a pretty good margin.

UHD sales will only increase from here on out (probably won't peak for several years), the answer is obviously indefinitely, since 3D sales are falling.

I think the industry blew it by releasing crappy 3D on TVs too soon and not waiting for passive 3D (and many manufacturers, like Sony, not converting to passive 3D at all) and not marketing any of it properly.

I'm a tech guy and even I didn't realize that there were TVs out there in which you could use passive glasses like the Real 3D glasses you get at movie theaters until I attended an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of 3D. I was shocked at how good the 3D looked playing back sections of the "3D Rarities" BD. And I'm not a big fan of 3D - the dim image in most theaters has really turned me off and there's only a few films where I thought the 3D really added to the film.

There's no technical reason why UHD couldn't also support 3D. There's almost no cost to manufacturers to add it - it's all about signal handling software.
