Default Top 20 Week ending 3/13/16

Notice the new column for UHD BD.

The Peanuts Movie had a 0.3% share (of all discs, not just Blu-ray), while The Martian was 3% and The Last Witch Hunter 2%. Peanuts was lower because it was day and date and had to compete with the rush of first week buyers.

Blu-ray top 20 share: 40.8%
3D share (among all discs): 2.47%
3D share (among BD titles with 3D SKU): 8.39%
UHD share (among all discs): 0.19%
UHD share (among BD titles with UHD SKU): 1.01%

IMHO, Very few titles worthy of purchase. Spectre was the worst disappointment, sure wish Roger Deakins had been the DP on that one.

Don’t see much between now and April 5 except The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 and The Hateful Eight which may sell well. It will be interesting to see how Star Wars does in terms of sales on 4/5/16.

I thought Spectre looked good. I know I'm probably alone in that thought!

Yeah, SW is going to be interesting.

I haven't bought that many BDs in the past month or so. And I'm not purposely cutting back on buying BDs or anything. There just hasn't been much coming out that I want to rush out and buy. I did get the 4K combo pack of the Peanuts movie, but that is about it.

Well you know how much I dislike handheld and/or shaky camera work. Spectre had way too much of both for my taste. Have you watched Sicario (Roger Deakins was the DP)? Much better camera work than Spectre.

I have. It looked great. As it was a hugely enjoyable film it's a keeper as well.

Yes, I remember. I couldn't help but have a little giggle when I saw that FPS style film (Hardware) was coming out. I thought of your comments and I think it's a safe bet you won't be going to see that one!

I intend to purchase Sicario* as well but waiting to see how the 4K BD turns out. It is one of the few 4K BD's with a 4K DI.

*Corrected spelling from Sicrrio to Sicario in earlier post.

I'm still waiting for Sicario to ship from Amazon.ca, but from everything I've heard this movie looks great on UHD BD. Easily the best looking of the Lionsgate batch.

Also Wendell, as you know from the FMP-X10 movies, the 4K resolution bump doesn't make that much a difference visually. The inital Sony 4K movies (like Smurfs 2) don't look any more detailed on the UHD BD than they do the X10 download.

There already is, but hopefully the UHD BD sales won't give them a reason to doom & gloom here. I'm pretty optimistic.

Anyway glad to see the UHD share in the top 20. Now it can be directly compared to the 3D share and it will be interested to see the UHD share catch up to it and pass it. I'm sure it will sometime this year, especially since they're offered as combos like the 3D. The difference is that I think someone is far more likely to future proof with UHD than with 3D (which is dying and only the flagship models are offering it on many brands or not at all).

Now hopefully they'll include it in the pie chart as well at some point, so we can know how well the whole format is doing and not just the top 20.

It appears there is lots of waiting in store for some of us, HDMI 2.1, DV, Projectors with DV/HDR, Panasonic, LG, Sony, Oppo UHD BD players, etc. but I am with that.

The good part is there is a lot of good looking stuff available on BD.

Just found out the the Warner UHD BD movie's UV codes are now redeeming UHD. That will really add value to the UHD combo pack and boost sales.

Hopefully the other studios follow suit soon. Can't wait for the other studios to get on board! (although I know Disney probably won't until next year).

Just curious, are you getting from Amazon.ca because of the exchange rate or is it a different version? Does import duties not negate any savings?

Do you have to pay taxes in CA on Amazon US orders on items sold by Amazon? Here in NC we have to pay 7% .

Because it's cheaper (probably because of the exchange rate). I think it's exactly the same disc and artwork. They just shipped it out yesterday so should get it in a few days hopefully.
