Default Hulu's Marvel's M.O.D.O.K.

New Hulu show:

Quote:
Marvel & Hulu Ink Pact For ‘Howard The Duck’ Animated Series + More – TCA

Things between Marvel TV and Netflix may be winding down, but Hulu and its Disney-owned corporate cousin are just getting started it seems.

n a deal quite reminiscent of the accord struck between the Reed Hastings-run streamer and Disney back in 2013 for four new series and The Defenders team-up limited series, Hulu and Marvel today unveiled four new original adult animated series and a The Offenders team-up special.

As a third season of the Schwartz and Stephanie Savage created Marvel’s Runaways seems a sure bet, Hulu is hoping to strongly up its Marvel game and to resurrect the reputation of the acerbic Howard The Duck, who got plucked in that terrible 1986 feature film, as part of its big programming chess move. The HTD series based on the cigar chomping character first introduced in the comics in 1973 will be stewarded by Clerks kingpin Kevin Smith, along with Dave Willis. Both will executive produce the series with Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb.

Ex-Netflix talk show host Chelsea Handler shifts over to Hulu for Marvel’s Tigra & Dazzler Show, which she will EP and write with Erica Rivinoja. Like every one of the new series, Loeb will also serve as an EP on the show of the politically progressive Tigra and Dazzler as they try to get their superpowered heads, hands and hearts around life in the City of Angels.

Josh Gordon and Will Speck plus Patton Oswalt and Jordan Blum are the respective driver’s seats for Marvel’s Hit-Monkey and Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. The latter centers on a supervillain with ego and family issues, while the former tracks a pissed off Japanese snow monkey who tries to take on and take down Tokyo’s crime underworld with the ghost of an American assassin by his side.

All four series will cross paths in the Marvel’ The Offenders special, which Jeph Loeb is executive producing in what is a major expansion of the CAA-repped Marvel TV.

An expansion that comes in what looks to be a very eventful year for the brand on both the small and big screen – and I don’t just mean because a new Russo Brothers helmed Avengers movie and Captain Marvel herself are hitting the big screen.

Today’s TCA announced agreement, of course, comes as the Bob Iger-run company prepares to take over controlling interest in Hulu under Disney’s multi-billion-dollar acquisition of the Fox assets. Virtually simultaneously, the House of Mouse is gearing up to take on Netflix and other with its near fully loaded Disney+ streaming service, of which Marvel movies and programming are a major component.

In anticipation of that new kid on the digital block or not, the past few months have also seen Netflix pull the plug on further seasons of Iron Fist, Luke Cage and most recently Daredevil. With those cancellations, Marvel TV’s only Netflix shows left are The Punisher, which saw its second season launch last month, and Jessica Jones, which has an upcoming Season 3 set to roll on the streamer.

The expectation is neither the Jon Bernthal vigilante series or the Krysten Ritter-led Jones will be renewed for further cycles – though nothing has been said officially, yet.

Seesh Disney really rolling out MCU on Hulu as expected curious which will be Animated and live action as expected also potentially Hulu will be the home for MCU R-rated or TV-MA content hopefully we do get a reboot for The Punisher, Daredevil, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and Jessica Jones some day (even though I enjoyed the original cast).

I am hoping we get a X-Men series on Hulu like Legion or a TV-MA X-Men series as it should be I do wish Disney/MCU would consider giving The Gifted series a chance but I feel like season 2 will be the end if Disney is house cleaning FOX/MCU.

Default Marvel/Hulu's M.O.D.O.K.

Quote:
EXCLUSIVE: Marvel Television might be getting phased out, but Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. TV series at Hulu has a whole new chorus of voices.

Veep’s Sam Richardson, The Goldbergs’ Wendi McLendon-Covey, House of Lies’ Ben Schwartz and Lucifer’s Aimee Garcia are among the cast added to the animated supervillain family sitcom. With executive producer Patton Oswalt starring as the constantly foiled Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing, the adult-centric comedy is set to debut this year on the Disney-controlled streamer.

“I’m blown away by our insanely talented and hilarious voice cast, who have all brought their specific kind of magic to this weird and wonderful corner of the Marvel Universe,” EP and showrunner Jordan Blum said of the additions to the series. Karim Zreik, Marvel TV Studios SVP Original Programming & Production added in a statement today: “Patton and Jordan have done a phenomenal job in laying the groundwork for this exceptional ensemble. We’re thrilled to include this cast in the Marvel family,”

Announced in February as part of a multi-series rollout for Hulu, M.O.D.O.K. follows the extremely dysfunctional home life of the ex-A.I.M. member, who made his comics premiere way back in 1967.

In addition to Richardson, McLendon-Covey, Schwartz and Garcia, the cast additions include Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Beck Bennet (Saturday Night Live, Bill & Ted Face The Music) and Jon Daly (The Kroll Show, Curb Your Enthusiasm).

In Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K., the megalomaniacal supervillain M.O.D.O.K. (Oswalt) has long pursued his dream of one day conquering the world. But after years of setbacks and failures fighting the Earth’s mightiest heroes, M.O.D.O.K. has run his evil organization A.I.M. into the ground. Ousted as A.I.M.’s leader, while also dealing with his crumbling marriage and family life, the Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing is set to confront his greatest challenge yet: a midlife crisis!

Garcia will play Jodie, M.O.D.O.K.’s wife and mother to his children, has had a late-in-life awakening — excited to pursue her mommy-blog turned lifestyle-brand empire and discover who she is as an independent woman in her forties. There are just too many things to do in this world and not enough time to waste being held back by negativity. And unfortunately for M.O.D.O.K., the thing weighing her down the most… is him.

Schwartz will portray Lou. To be honest, M.O.D.O.K. doesn’t really “get” his twelve-year-old son Lou. Not athletic enough to be a jock. Not smart enough to be a nerd. Lou is… well, Lou — a kid who clearly marches to the beat of his own drum. Lou’s lack of friends, ambition and hygiene is a constant worry for M.O.D.O.K., who often projects his own insecurities onto his overly confident son.

Fumero will portray Melissa. Even with her father’s “features,” seventeen-year-old Melissa has risen the ranks to become the Heathers-like queen bee of her school and a star in the world of teen figure skating. Every popular kid either wants to date her or avoid her terrifying wrath. But for all of her success, Melissa secretly yearns for her father’s approval.

McLendon-Covey is Monica Rappaccini, a brilliant mad-scientist at A.I.M. and M.O.D.O.K.’s rival at work. Clearly more competent and qualified than M.O.D.O.K., Monica believes she should be running the organization. After GRUMBL acquires A.I.M., Monica relishes in M.O.D.O.K.’s suffering until the new management begins to infringe on her ungodly experiments. With a common enemy in Austin, M.O.D.O.K. and Monica are finally able to put aside their differences and work together… when they aren’t constantly betraying each other.

Bennet portrays Austin Van Der Sleet. After M.O.D.O.K.’s evil organization A.I.M. is run into the ground, he’s forced to sell it to silicon valley tech-giant GRUMBL. GRUMBL sends slick, twenty-something Austin as a “post-merger-integration-consultant” and M.O.D.O.K.’s new boss. Though M.O.D.O.K. wishes he could just zap Austin to the Negative Zone, M.O.D.O.K. must find new solutions to confront Austin’s corporate jargon-speak and frequent mandatory HR meetings, if he’s ever going to reclaim A.I.M. from Austin’s grip.

Daly plays Super Adaptoid, a snarky android with ambitions to live, feel and create, but is instead forced to spend his days massaging the hoverchair sores on his creator M.O.D.O.K.’s scalp. Although the Adaptoid dreams of overwriting his programming and turning on M.O.D.O.K., there is also a begrudging friendship between these two.

Richardson, is Gary, a henchman or “beekeeper” at A.I.M. who is fiercely loyal to his boss M.O.D.O.K., even if M.O.D.O.K. struggles to remember his name. As M.O.D.O.K. continues to get demoted within his own organization, Gary is there by his side, always offering his help and unshakeable optimism whether M.O.D.O.K. wants it or not.

With a number of programming and personal shifts at Marvel’s small screen efforts in recent months, M.O.D.O.K. is still set to join the Offenders team-up series with Howard the Duck and others next year – at least for now.

‘Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.’: Patton Oswalt Says Hulu’s Stop-Motion Animated Series Is Coming Early 2021

Even a pandemic cannot stop the famed Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing from making his eventual Hulu debut. While promoting the upcoming third season of the Peacock series A.P. Bio, the incredibly talented and incredibly busy Patton Oswalt confirmed to Collider that the animated take on M.O.D.O.K. he and showrunner Jordan Blum are working on is on track to debut early next year.

It’s a wait, but Oswalt makes it sound like it’ll be worth it. “The episodes have been written. They’ve been recorded. Now they’re being animated. And because we committed very hard to the stop-motion aspect to it and we’re really packing every frame with crazy detail,” he says. “It’s looking like it’ll be early next year, but I don’t know the exact date yet.”

Here’s the official description for the show, as provided by Hulu:

Quote:
In “Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K.,” the megalomaniacal supervillain M.O.D.O.K. (Patton Oswalt) has long pursued his dream of one day conquering the world.

The stop-motion animation for M.O.D.O.K. is being done by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios (the same production company behind Robot Chicken), with the previously announced voice cast for M.O.D.O.K. including Oswalt, Aimee Garcia, Melissa Fumero, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ben Schwartz, Beck Bennett, Jon Daly, and Sam Richardson.

Oswalt added that he’d just done a music pass with composer Daniel Rojas on the fourth episode, and “it’s really, really cool stuff. So trust me, it is proceeding apace.” Rojas’s previous credits as a composer and songwriter include Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, Downsizing, and Room.

So, we can look forward to M.O.D.O.K. at some point in early 2021.

I'm very old school, and prefer my M.O.D.O.K. to be much more serious/deadly. I'll give this a look when it arrives, but I'm really not feeling it.

Considering this is stop motion, they probably were too far along and had all the money spent already, so canceling it without airing would probably be losing more money than gaining.

This style of humor isn't for everyone, but I think it's hilarious!

Patton Oswalt is great as MODOK.

I got to be honest, i kinda just couldn't finish it, I think my expectations were too high because it was just Robot Chicken without the edge and the humour wasn't strong enough to carry the entire series.

I just got bored halfway through when I realised I just didn't care enough to finish the series.

I've only seen snippets, but like what I've seen. I've always been a fan of Ol' Big Head in the comics, enjoying M.O.D.O.K.'s 11 and most recently M.O.D.O.K.: Head Games, but I was really hoping he'd make a serious appearance in the MCU.
