Ingenious, not groundbreaking. They found a way to create a new character in the canon who could act as an "elder" and role model to Wonder Woman. So the fictional version of her parallels the real-life status of Lynda Carter, as an example and mentor to Gal. It's very clever.

Yes, it's neat that they cast the original Wonder Woman, but there's nothing 'clever' about it.

I hope they keep her. She does have the looks, size, and accent...just don't give her a ton of dialog maybe? The new DC probably wants more control over each asset and will cancel films if they don't follow their path. I wouldn't be surprised if Gadot reprises the role but under a different story arc.

Well according to the article above there’s rumors that they’ll keep Jason Momoa but not as Aquaman, they’ll just cast him as Lobo instead. So who knows what will happen with all the current DC stars? Sounds like James Gunn wants to scrap everything except Matt Reeves’ The Batman. Smart man.

sources say that jenkins recently submitted her treatment, co-written with geoff johns, and that gunn and safran, as well as warner bros. Pictures co-chairs and co-ceos michael de luca and pamela abdy, broke the news to the filmmaker, telling her the project — as it stood — did not fit in with the new (but still unfolding) plans. Jenkins directed and co-wrote the previous two movies, starring gal gadot and released in 2017 and 2020. No decision has been made about next steps.

The fact that there were no other movies with release date or filming dates other than Joker 2 and the Batman 2 post 2023, makes this news not surprising. I expected Flash/Shazam 2/Aquaman 2/Blue Beetle to be the end of the DCEU run but the possibility of a WW3 and Aquaman 3 would have extended it until they rebooted. I guess since it would have taken until 2025 to release WW3 or Aquaman 3 means they want to get the new universe started quicker.

Logistically a WW3 should have been released sometime in late 2023, 2024 at the latest. Just looking through this thread and the lack of movement maybe should have been a sign.

I have no idea who that is, but there is no chance in hell I will ask for another Wonder Woman 1984. That movie was so bad, I almost walked out on it. I then realized I was at home.

In a way I'm not shocked. Gunn and Safran are creating their own blueprint for the DC Universe and everything is going to have to align up. Patty Jenkins isn't going to be able to do her own thing, like she did with WW84. I still think there is a chance the next Wonder Woman movie will star Gal Gadot though.

How big of a hit is this for Patty Jenkins? She was on top of the world after the first Wonder Woman movie. Then she made Wonder Woman 1984 and she has lost her Cleopatra movie, her Star Wars film and now Wonder Woman 3. WW84 sent her career into a nosedive.

If the story is true and they are ending everything that came with the DCEU previously that'll be disappointing. We just got Cavill back and he even filmed a cameo for The Flash and now it looks like he lost the role again. I assumed when they announced that Cavill was coming back and Gunn/Safran were taking over DC in the same week that Cavill coming back was apart of the deal.

Not surprising that The Rock is out. He was clearly trying to jockey for a controlling position in the new DC universe. He even announced, on his twitter, that he was working on Black Adam 2 and a Hawkman spinoff. Clearly those announcements held zero weight.

The idea that they are also ending Aquaman after A2 comes out is also shocking. They are going to end the franchise even if the sequel makes another $1.2B or more?

I think Gunn is a great storyteller, but I was afraid that he was going to be focusing on the more strange and esoteric characters in the DC Universe, based on his previous history. The article mentions Momoa possibly playing Lobo although it just seems like speculating, I feel like any beginning of a DC Universe needs to begin with Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman movies at the center.
