I bought a new Sony HD camcorder (HDR-SR11)... I want to back these up to Blu-Ray. I want to make Blu-Ray movies and also have backups.
These files are huge... and I am filling up my backup hard drives. And, I really want to watch the movies on my Sony 40" ZBR4 1080p TV. So, any suggestions on a good Blu-Ray burner and media? I want to spend under $300... I want quality too, I don't want a generic... thanks in advance... |

If you are using a PC, get Sony Vegas Pro 8, with DVD Architect 5. I think you can create an AVCHD disc also with the Sony Motion Picture Browser that came with your camcorder. These programs can burn AVCHD to a standard DVD-R, or if you have a Blu Ray burner, DVD Architect 5 can burn it to that - you get a choice of MPEG 2 or AVC encoding, AVC encodes just a little bit nicer. I am not sure if Motion Picture Browser can burn to an actual Blu Ray disc.
I just noticed you also want backups, I think Motion Picture Browser is best for that, you can use it to make a data disc with your files. Use Vegas Pro 8 and DVD Architect 5 for your Blu-ray movie creations! Last edited by Chevypower; 10-02-2008 at 03:38 AM. |

Looks like this one is getting fairly good reviews:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827136155 I have an HD camcorder and am curious about this topic as well so keep us updated. And although this is more generic for media their blank DVDs are usually well received and this is a great price for a 25 pack of BDs: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817132062 Last edited by akbungle; 10-02-2008 at 12:46 PM. |

I have seen $77 on Amazon for a spindle of 15. I think they were Memorex brand, which I am sure will do the job. But still, now you know why I have never burnt to a Blu-ray Disc. Only AVCHD to regular DVD (in full quality). You probably get about 30mins to a Single Layer DVD.
