Default Opinions - Velodyne DPS Series Subwoofers Vs Yamaha Subwoofers?

I have been recently researching subwoofers to add to my system. I already own a yamaha yst-sw215 (nice but just not enough), and was looking for more. My first thought was to buy the yamaha yst-sw315 and run both subs together. It could be nice and if I get one of the new RX-V_63 series recievers I could be set (dual sub pre-outs). However, I am doubtful of the yst-sw315's ability to really perform that much better with my 215. Yamaha also likes to fluff actual specifications.

To get more to the point, I found that the Velodyne DPS-10 and DPS-12 have been discontinued. I am really interested into the DPS-10. The price is perfectly in my budget, and the reviews have been very positive. I have had some experience with velodyne subs before (DLS-4000R), and I am pretty sure that one great velodyne will beat two good yamahas. The DLS-4000R btw is unbelievable.

I just wanted to know if anyone who owns either the velodyne or the yamaha subs I have metioned above would recommend them, and which would be a better decision. I am definately leaning towards the velodyne's. So let me know what you think.

Price Summary: Amazon.com
Yamaha YST-SW315 = $125 - 175
Velodyne DPS-10 = $199 - 215
Velodyne DPS-12 = $299 - 315

I have the DPS-10, and love it. I tend to not recommend speakers because, when it comes to sound, everyone's likes are different. I really like this sub though and everyone that has watched a movie at my house comments on it.

edit: just saw the price at Amazon, definitely worth it.

Default Thank You.

Thanks for the input. I am probably going to go with the DPS-10 or if I can managed it the DPS-12. I have heard some good things, and I feel like its a good deal. I still would like to know more about the 315, but that doesn't really matter.

I have had a DPS-10 for a few years now and love it. The only thing I dislike is the blue lights in the front are fairly bright and annoying. Also, the volume up and down is a bit difficult since it just has the lights blink faster or slower depending on where you set it.

as far as sound quality goes, I would say Velodyne is leaps and bounds about above yamaha for subwoofers at pretty much every price point.

IN MY OPINION.

Sounds like at that sort of distance you need an upgrade, or two, or four.

Would you recommend changing the low pass freq or turning up the volume on the sub through the receiver?

Receiver volume would be best there.
