Picked up a PB16-Ultra to replace my (2) SB-2000's. Insanity........ the amount and quality of bass that comes out of this massive box. I need (want) a 2nd one to get the dual sub treatment. I have never heard and felt bass like this!

Jealous!! Enjoy! My HT is only ~ 1700 cubic feet so I think my dual SB2Ks will do quite well!

I had thoughts of getting a couple of PB 3000s this past spring, but then I also started looking at a single PB16-Ultra instead. I would love to hear one in action in my setup! Now if only I could get myself to stop buying/upgrading my mountain bikes, one of those options would have happened. ![]() |

I love mountain bikes as well, however photography keeps me spending/upgrading. Last edited by MobileES; 06-04-2022 at 10:16 PM. |

Just after some advise on how to save some energy coupled with that perennial auto-on issue. The rising price of energy in the UK is forcing me to rethink, where in the past I wasn't too fussed if the sub was a little bit of a vampire when not in use due to the ease of it being available instantly.
So I can't be having the sub on all the time now, yet I've got that common issue of my SB1000 Pro sub not kicking in on auto standby mode. My receiver doesn't have a trigger output, unfortunately. I did think about one of those master/slave switches so if the AVR comes on, it turns the sub on, but they're all but impossible to find in the UK now. So, one solution is decrease the gain level on the sub, and recalibrate so it gets more signal from my receiver and will hopefully turn on more reliably on auto? Is there any reason I shouldn't if it stays at sensible figures, even if quite different from the speaker levels? I know I don't want ridiculous figure where the AVR has the gain for the sub at +8.5 or something similarly high. Another is a smart power strip - I've got several smart single plugs, but no smart power strip, so am unsure quite what they offer beyond simple voice command. I'd love it if they could be programmed to run similar to a master/slave socket, but I doubt it. I don't want to be telling it verbally to turn each component on and off individually, and since I have an OLED I ideally need that to always be in standby anyway. There's the most simple option of turning it on and off manually, but I'm lazy and want an easier solution. Last edited by oddbox83; 08-30-2022 at 10:09 AM. |

I’ve reached out to SVS for advise. They confirmed increasing the gain in the AVR and lowering it in the sub should work.
I tried it manually with existing settings by adding to the AVR sub gain and subtracting the same number from the sub, then recalibrated using Audyssey with the sub still at the lower level and got the exact same +1.5 with the sub set at -20. So I’m sure it’s a reliably correct setting. |

Over the weekend, my SVS sub (SB12-NSD) started making an occasional cracking noise. This is the one that had a blown amp that I replaced about 3 years ago. The sub itself is 12 years old. Hoping not to have to buy a replacement but we'll see.

Just thought I'd take a second stab at getting a response. Any input appreciated.

Thanks, man.
![]() ![]() They want me to do some troubleshooting which I kinda did already (it only makes these sounds when there's a signal going to it/not when it's idle during the day and it increases in number of times/frequency the longer it stays on/receives a signal). The last thing I can do is try connecting it to my 3rd sub input on my pre/pro (it's currently connected to the sub 1 input) and see if the issue remains. If not, great, but if so, that means something is up with sub input 1 which is another problem altogether. I suppose I can at least do that over the weekend, it's not that big of a deal and is free. |

Have you considered a pro-amp? The amp died on one of my subs (the old behemoth AV123 MFW-15) around 10 years ago. I replaced it with a plate amp from a different manuf. and had the same results as you as it died within 2 years. I decided to pick up a pro-amp (Crown XLS1000 Class D, bridgeable yields 700W @ 4ohm) and a 20 Hz RCA high pass filter. I gutted the plate amp and only left the banana terminals intact, then soldered the driver cable to the terminals. Then I just run speaker cable to the sub from the amp, and the in-line high pass filter between the sub and my pre-pro so that I don't kill the driver. Been running strong for 8 years now. But yes, it drives me nuts that the rest of a 12-year old sub is absolutely fine, it's the electronics that are failing. |

I spoke with SVS yesterday and they want me to run a few tests on my sub. Once those are done, I send the results to them to take to their engineers and await their feedback. If it's the amp, then I'm covered under the 5-year warranty from the replacement amp I installed 3 years ago. If it's the driver, I'm screwed.
