I would give it to you, but the Velo SMS-1 does not like people who own ED Subs. It will turn their subwoofers to mushroom.

I know...4 subs is the ultimate experience but I can't see that happening with my room layout. Let alone trying to explain to the wife why I need 2 more of those "boxes"!! Your room must rock for sure!!!

Looks like you'll have to order another SMS-1 so all your children are treated fairly. Can't slight any of them you know!

ought to. I have the same sub and it works great with my 670. It's in the pull down menu somewhere. If you can't find it, let me know and I'll go a-searchin.

We have a few Doctor friends that live in Beverly Hills and San Diego. They are very rich. They know nothing about audio/video, but have spent over $20,000 on their equipment through dealers. Every time, they visit, they are surprised and jealous of how much better our system sounds. One of them offered me money to go over their house and tweak their system. Unfortunately, I only accepted dinner.

I got my wife involved from day one. I take her to high-end audio shows and she enjoys them. She was with me when I bought the two Hsu Research's top-of-the-line subwoofers in 1998 for around $1,600. Surprisingly, she is the one that normally talks me into buying the higher-end models. She has become a closet audiophile.

Take your wife to audio shows and dealers. Pretty soon, you will have to talk her out of buying the newest gadget.

Default VX-10C worth $130?

I checked the link Big_Daddy has, post 36, and didn't see the VX-10C listed. It is on sale for $130 at Frys, they claim regular price is $250, but a Google check for the 10C seems to lead to just posts about the sale at Frys. So is this a good deal or not? Obviously not the power house most of this thread is about but for a starter subwoofer how does it compare to others in the price range? I am thinking of getting a pair - if they still have them at my Frys store.

The Velo VX-10C is no power house, but a good buy for $130. You should also consider these options from Acoustic Audio.

or

Already did that trying to get her to enjoy the hobby as much as me. It didn't work too well. She understands my addiction but for her personally she's not into it. Kinda like her trying to get me to go clothes shopping with her...pure torture. We have a mutual understanding. She pretty much understands that the downstairs is my "Man Cave" & is just fine with that.

Maybe I'll try to squeeze 2 more subs in one of these days. That would be awesome!!

Tried the same with my ex-wife...didn't work. She just wasn't into it. We parted ways!

My girlfriend now though is very much into it, especially the Blu-ray side of things. She loves movies, much more than I in fact.

Default Dual SPL-1200R subs not turning on at same time.

I have then running off an NAD T765 AVR that has 2 sub outs. Both subs are set identical, the NAD setting is all speakers set to small @ 80hz. One sub will turn on as soon as it gets the signal, the other sub has a delay turn on, which can take awhile. I even ran both off of a single sub out via a Y cable (thinking maybe the one sub out wasn't operating properly) with the same results.

I did notice that on bass heavy music & movies that they both respond immediately to the signal. I had a Nora Jones CD playing (low level bass at the beginning) but the same sub turned on immediately while the other sub didn't. Then I shook the sub a little & it turned on. What do you think the problem might be. They were purchased within a few months of each other.

I hate having to get up to keep checking if the one subs on or not.

This is very strange. Open the sub that gives you the problem. There may be a loose wire. You can also contact the manufacturer and ask them for free service.

Thanks, I ordered two of the Cherry model, these seem much better than the Velodyne and saves me about an 80 mile round trip.

Congratulations. When they arrive, make sure you do not set the volumes higher than 50%. They are very powerful. You don't want to damage the drivers. In the meantime, read A Guide to Subwoofers (Part II): Standing Waves & Room Modes. It will help you place and adjust your subwoofers properly. We also have an Acoustic Audio Subwoofer Owners Thread. Post pictures and comments there.

Default Superb Velodyne Customer Service!

I purchased a Velo SPL-1200R a few months back & absolutely loved it's performance in both HT & 2 channel music. I loved it so much...I had to buy another one to keep it company. The new one arrived & it just didn't perform as it's identical twin. Sound wise they were exact, but the new sub seemed to have a problem turning itself on. It just wasn't detecting the signal nearly as quickly as it's twin. Long story short, I called Velo & talked to Curt, he had me try a few things first, which didn't correct the problem.

I had to send the amp back for repair...very fast turn around time to boot. They said they couldn't pin point the problem so they just sent me out a brand new amp. I wasn't expecting that at all. To some that might not seem like a big deal but having experience with other audio manuf., this was "Great" CS. Kudos to Velo. It's working like a charm. Oh, and did I mention that running dual subs is audio estacy!!

I'm surprised that your main speakers don't reach down to 36Hz, actually.

I currently have three Velo's in my possession my main viewing area has a DD-18 my basement area utilizes a SPL-1000R and my bedroom employs a miniVee. All of which produce amazing bass especially the big daddy DD-18.....
