I'm just now going to start eating better and shed some of these unwanted pounds. I used to be a college track athlete and have since gained 20-30 pounds. After getting married and then we had a kid recently I just let me self go and quit working out. Hardest part for me is finding the time to work out. I'm thinking of buying a home gym so I can do workouts while kid is sleeping and I don't have to drag myself out when I don't want to. Anyone know the best home gyms? I have researched alot but can't make up my mind. I used to work at a Gold's Gym and then another gym where I began to like the machine weights better for the resistance and for working out by yourself which I will be doing it will be safer.

yea unfortuantly for me, I have too much time

having trouble finding a new job..

The Plus side is, More time to work out, the down side is, also more free time to want to eat.

Bu like I said earlier, the Girlfriend is suppsoed to be getting me a Nintendo wii. So that should keep me active when playing games, and at somepoint well get wii fit. last time I weighd myself about 2 weeks agao, I was 223, But i think I have atleast lost 3 lbs sense then. I want to get to 150-160 is my main goal.

and before I go to the beach at the end of July I would like to be 190 or 180

I also smoke, so at somepoint that has to go too.

Just get some type of physical exericise into your day and you should start to notice a difference. Walking seems to be one of the easiest and painless ways to start of lossing weight in the begining and than start to tweak it from walking to walking and jogging and than to only jogging. The most iportant thing is to be commited to it and don't give up.

Good Luck.

I live very strictly on a low-carbohydrate ketogenic diet that consists mostly of lean meat and healthy fats. I had awful genetics growing up that enables my body to retain fat much easier than a normal person. I would recommend to everyone reading this to investigate adding a good portion of omega 3 fatty acids (most commonly found in salmon and often taken as fish oil supplements) to your diet. It changed my life and things like EPA and DHA really became an essential part of my everyday living. Good luck...

Is that you in your avatar? You don't look overweight. Anyway I don't drink much soda because for some reason they give me headaches. And I weightlift on occasion. Mostly in the summer with my freinds.

Best diet program out there is P90X, a mix of diet and exercise. I only weigh about 140 so the diet was a big thing for me but it leans you out and makes muscle.

I did it last year for only 2 months because traveling for work screwed up my schedule. I am going to start it up next week. The cooking gets tiresome because you have to make a different meal for every sitting. It begins with so much food I thought I was going to boot from the first day.

Make sure you include some forms of weight lifting into your diet/workout regime, otherwise you'll lose a lot of that precious muscle along with the fat. Plus weight-lifting is the fastest way to a sexy body .

When it comes to fat loss, intensity is very important. One hour walk will have much less benefit than 15 minutes of high intensity training.

Don't under eat. Many people starve themselves to lose weight, its not healthy and will hinder your results!

Cut soda and fast food out ASAP. Empty calories people!

Ideally it's better to eat about 5-6 smaller meals every day. It's helps with the metabolism.

Hope this advice helps!

anyways... anyone got healthy tips of how to GAIN weight?
i am a rare species in america trying to GAIN weight.
Gaining weight:

Heavy amounts of egg for breakfast. 2.0g protein per pound of bodyweight. Lots of oats (calorie dense) and lots of carbohydrates before sleepy time. Make sure you go to the gym or it will become fat instead of lean body mass.

There's a lot of good advice in this thread, and instead of just parroting, let me add my two cents as someone who dropped 40 pounds (picked up a lot of "sympathy weight" during my wife's pregnancy and took a lot of unhealthy shortcuts when it came to eating during my daughter's first few months.)

Routine, routine, routine.

I eat my breakfast and lunch at pretty much the same time every single day, in just about the same exact portions. Dinner's a little trickier because with the traffic on my commute home, I can't be quite as precise. But really, your body is like a machine or computer that you can program to accept new routines with enough repetition. In the same way that some people can eventually wake up around the same time every day without using an alarm, you can train your body to anticipate a certain amount of food every day if you're constant for a long enough period of time.

I could use about 10 pounds more. Already gained 5 but it was a rather lenghty process but I wanted to make sure it was muscle!

Eat whatever you want and run 60-100 miles/week. Works like a charm

I started at 270 Lbs at age 15. I decided to lose weight and I plummeted down to a 150Lbs at 6'2, increasing my metabolism and making it difficult to gain weight

From there I was a little afraid to bulk back up, but I managed to do a slow bulk without gaining a ton of fat because I ate quite cleanly, and I am currently back to 245Lbs at age 20, although now I have a 385Lb bench, 600 lb squat, and 625Lb deadlift, and a low bodyfat percentage, and compete in both bodybuilding, powerlifting, and mixed martial arts. I gained most of my lean body mass through eating a LOT of eggs, oats, chicken, lean ground beef, sausage, cottage cheese, and milk.

Anyone who tells you they can't gain weight just isn't trying hard enough. It's better to do it the way you and I did it, a slow consistent bulk, then it is to do an all out bulk/cut which most people do. Way too much fat gain and eventually you just use it as an excuse to become a slob and go to Mcdonalds 5x a week.

as for beverages, i only drink water, tea or fresh lemonade or iced tea with very little sugar.

Eat several small meals throughout the day, making sure that your more simple carbs consumed earlier. Do not eat too late!(lean meats and vegetables is the way to go, along with complex carbs, like lentils)

Do a good hour and a half of weightlifiting at least 3 times a week, and do whats called, interval cardio training when you can. Basically, go really fast, then stop, several times. Look it up. That training burns alot of calories.

Hmm I don't really worry much about what I eat. I have a strange metabolism. If I eat too much I don't really gain weight and If I start eating very low calories I also hardly lose weight. I'm kind of stuck in the middle and as such don't need to worry too much about the food.
