I am a former Tannoy lover. I still have a pair of Tannoy 'sweet sixes' (Six Series). They have 8" dual concentric drivers: a woofer and a compression horn driver mounted in the center. The cabinets have a unique five-sided shape. They are great for music, but not for rock music. They really bring out the delicate subtle details found in classical music.
I enjoyed these and other Tannoy speakers for many years until I got interested in home theater after moving back to the States. Of course, by 2000, finding Tannoys like the Sixes in the States was hopeless. I bought some Athena speakers to make a 5.1 system with the Tannoys: an AS center channel and two AS-B2s for side surrounds. The Tannoys were the L/R fronts. The Athena speakers, especially the center channel, had harsh sounding highs that made listening at higher volumes unbearable. Eventually I replaced the Athena center with the Energy C-C100 and the AS-B2s with the Energy C-200s. Wow, what a difference. Later I added a pair of C-100s for the surrounds, moved the C-200s to the front L/R and put the Tannoys in the rear for the surround back to make a 7.1 system. Up until last year that made up my HT system which was the time I added a pair of Energy towers (C-300s) and four C-R100 bipole surrounds. I sold the C-200s and C-100s. Sadly nobody would buy the Tannoys here in the States. If I still lived overseas, it would be easy. They are well known in Europe which is where I bought them. Tannoys don't seem to be very much appreciated here in the States. Attachment 6097 Last edited by Yeha-Noha; 10-02-2010 at 02:59 PM. |
