still find the label oddly expensive. only a few manage to get their prices this high across the board.

Universal distributes Cohen titles, by way of EOne.

Yes, the database here typically lists the releasing company as the distributor rather than the actual releasing label.

For example, Barbara, Omar, Winter Sleep, and Victoria are all listed as coming from Kino Lorber, but if you look at the back cover scans, they have the "Adopt Films" logo, with nary a mention of Kino Lorber.

Hi everyone,

I'm new here but I need your help as it seems the verified info is hard to find... I was looking to purchase the ''3 films by Claude Chabrol'' blu-rays from Cohen but it seems the English subtitles are forced (not removable). DVDbeaver says they are optional but I have also read some consumer complaints saying that they are not. Can anyone who actually owns this title provide the accurate info?

Thanks

Can you show me where you saw that they may be forced?

I saw it here:

And from some Amazon reviewers.

Thanks. I don't really see why DVDBeaver would say there's an English, and a None option, and also specifically say they are optional if they weren't. Perhaps it's best to contact Cohen directly, if you can't find anyone here that has the set and can confirm.

Thanks. Hopefully someone here will confirm as I have written to Cohen over a week ago and unfortunately didn't get a reply (yet).

I wouldn't count on a response. I once wrote to tell them a French film on their Amazon channel didn't have subtitles. Never got an answer.

fwiw, the reviews on this website for the Chabrol set says the English subtitles are forced. May have to dig this out and finally get around to watching it pretty soon.

Or you will get a response like six or seven months from now. Which is what I got when I asked once if a film was OOP. The said film I asked about is now back in print

I watched my copy of Cohen's release of Queen Margot today and highly enjoyed it.

That massacre scene about 45 minutes in is brutal, and the music that is playing while it's happening totally sets it off. After the scene finished I had to rewind it and watch it again.

Like it says on the back cover this release, the performances in this film are passionate. I was especially impressed with Jean-Hugues Anglade who plays King Charles IX. The nuances of all the emotion he displayed floored me. And it obviously goes without saying that Adjani is top notch in this film as well.

This film is excellent and I look forward to future rewatches.

B&N is running a 50% off promotion on Cohen titles. Not sure for how long. (Their semi-annual Criterion 50% sale also started today).

Any recommendations for the sale? Don’t think I have any of their releases.
