Mondo Digital has a review for Paganini up. The screen shots are much brighter than the 88 films version.

The compression on the Severin is a nightmare.

What a joke. Guess I gotta skip out on the soundtrack then. Already got the 88 Films release and I'm not paying like 30 bucks for just the soundtrack.

I regret not taking a chance on the 88 Films release when it went down to 7.99 on Amazon UK a couple weeks ago. It's now back up to 16.99. It was going to be a blind buy and if it's as bad as everyone says it is, I'm not spending much on it and I'm definitely not getting Severin's after those screencaps.

Just like in so many other Severin release. I've been saying this forever: they really REALLY need to start producing helluva way better compressed Blu-ray's. You know, like yesterday.

Severin are very hit and miss especially when it comes to encode. Some are good, but some bad.
Given Severin's latest titles, Wax Mask, Killer Crocodile and this, I think they keep returning to the rule and it's really a shame.
I really want to support Severin as they are continually releasing many fascinating Italian films that I'm interested in, but if they're going to keep doing this way, I may stop spending my money on Severin.
Wax Mask will be the last Severin release I pre-order, and I'll patiently wait for some competent reviews and caps before I decide to buy theirs as from now.

Severin need to stop with the enamel pins and the pointless bundles and spend more time on the actual Blu-ray.

I'm kind of worried about the Blood on Satan's Claw, right now the screenbound UK release has the better transfer I doubt Severin will top it. They will probably have a bundle for that too which will be tempting for me.

Who knows it's Severin doing SMILE BEFORE DEATH?
And then mess it up.

Oh, no! Don't even want to think about it...
As we know, Smile Before Death is not coming from Mondo Macabro, so I just hope Arrow or Vinegar Syndrome can do it, really!

Definitely. I've been saying that forever, but I guess they make good money that way and don't seem to care otherwise.

They still need to put far more effort into their transfers and encodes. They are often hit and miss, but lately they've been mostly miss.

Looking at the screen grabs between the Severin and 88 release, where should I look to see the compression? Genuine question. I don't see it, but I am not very good at seeing it.

Are you sure you want to see it? There may no turning back after you start noticing "issues" with everything. I can't tell the differences between those two screencaps myself and I'd rather keep it that way. Maybe this is something only people with keen eyes notice

Enlarge the pictures and look at them closely. You can easily to spot the issues, the walls, cloths, background, character's faces, blocky artifacts are everywhere on the Severin screenshots.

The Severin looks compressed and grain structure is messed up. And again gamma is not right.

The idea of Smile..., Orgasmo, Bell From Hell getting this treatment...

Did anybody address these issues to Severin?

It's useless. The QC dude of Severin's clearly has a drinking problem. Their The Changeling Proves it.

It's funny the people on these boards who talk about "compression" problems are just like the people on the photography boards I go to who pixel peep every photo they take looking for problems. LOL
