I hope we see them this year. I think they were showing them in theaters already, or soon, so we may see a release after?

Preorders now up for the Kitanos -- and I'm not the kind of guy that usually complains about cover art, but jeez...

I realize that Benjamin Marra has his followers...but these covers significantly detract from the films they represent.

I wonder why FM didn't use the original artwork?

Those remind me of drawings by comic artist wannabes back when I was in Junior High.

I guess Film movement wants to keep sales as low as they can be.

I actually kinda like these. It depends how seriously you take these Kitanos though. Are they low rent b-action movies or are they more than that? I think Kitano is probably a little cut above your typical Cannon-style b-movie director, so I get why some are upset though. But on another level, they are kind of cacophonic testosterone driven films scratching that teenaged part of you.

Perhaps hiring all these alt-comic artists to draw their covers may not appeal to their target demographic.

Looking at these covers, though, I'd almost think with my skills even I could someday draw a cover for a mass market DVD release.

NEWS
https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=19955

Quote:
U.S. label Film Movement has revealed that it is planning to release on Blu-ray Sissi: The Trilogy (1955-1957), starring Romy Schneider, Karlheinz Böhm, Magda Schneider, Gustav Knuth, and Vilma Degischer. The box set is expected to arrive on the market early next year.

Synopsis At the age of seventeen, Romy Schneider became an international star through her portrayal of Princess Elisabeth (Sissi) of Austria in the first of three lavish films directed by Ernst Marischka. While she would go on to work with some of the most influential and daring European directors of the era, Schneider will always be remembered by this defining role.

I would agree with parts of what you're saying, but the ending sentence not so much. Yeah, these films showcase a bunch of violence... but the violence is not a focal point. These films focus more on the characters and relationships, and when you're focused on the plot and characters the violence explodes on screen. Most of the time, the violence is shocking rather than 'cool' in the cacophonic testosterone driven films you mention.

There's a lot of beauty in Takeshi's work. I like to think back to that scene in Violent Cop, where Takeshi and his sister walk home at night along the sea and the only sound you hear is her gentle singing.

Kitano is actually a lot like the old Japanese directors, in that he focuses on the feeling of 'mono no aware.' It's a Japanese term for being aware of the passing of things in life and the sadness that comes with it.

I haven't heard anything. Like you, I'd be interested to know if anyone has heard otherwise. I just received Boiling Point and Violent Cop in an order from Diabolik yesterday.

Sounds like you are not region free since you asked for R1, and I bet you know about them already, but Third Window Films has been putting out a ton of Kitano.

I am actually region free as of a few months ago, but it's easier/quicker for me to get R1 releases. Usually cheaper too. I'd usually defer to an R1 release unless another is loads better.

Anybody know what happened to Film Movement's RAM releasing line? I happened to be on FM's website and noticed that Moebius was listed as a release, which brought me to the discovery that RAM releasing is one in the same. The website is down and I don't think they released anything other than Moebius. I guess they just abandoned the name?
