Default Panasonic DMP-UB900 Ultra HD Player

Thoughts, news, and speculation on the forthcoming 4K UltraHD blu-ray player from Panasonic.

http://www.cnet.com/products/panasonic-dmp-ub900/

Quote:
Panasonic is positioning the DMP-UB900 as a premium player that features playback of Ultra HD 4K Blu-ray discs including HDR playback.

But the player will be format agnostic, as it will also be able to stream 4K content from Netflix and other streaming providers. So, too, it will be able to play back high-resolution music via a network or from a USB source.

One odd thing about the player is that it will come with a number of "Digital Tube Sound" presets. You know, for those people whose digital music isn't "fake tube distortion-y" enough.

Panasonic has said the player will be released in 2016, so look out for details on pricing.

● THX certification

● Dual HDMI outputs with 4:4:4 compatible output

● 7.1 channel analog audio output

● High-res audio playback (DSD (2.8MHz/5.6MHz), ALAC, FLAC, WAV)

● 192kHz/32-bit DAC x 5

● DLNA support

● Wi-Fi built-in (802.11n/ac)

● Backlit remote

● Quick Start mode

Looks well equipped and the dual HDMI outputs is a major plus. I like the sleek and modern look although it looks like a finger print OCD culprit.

why are people saying no 3D?

Have we seen them say somewhere that it won't play 3D, or just speculating because they aren't saying that it does play 3D?

It doesn't say it plays DVDs or CDs either, but I'm pretty sure it will.

Not including 3D would be a very odd choice.

Who knows what a firmware update could do to this. There's a possibility that it could be fairly future proofed. I'm not so bothered over the lack of 3D because I have a 3D Blu-ray player so it's not much of a problem, but as I say firmware.

IMO, as with the Samsung UHD player, its gonna play UHD discs, DVD's, Blu-ray and 3D blu-ray...

I wish this thing was coming in March...

The review for it says it doesn't support Dolby ATMOS or DTS X surely the pair could be bit streamed?

Panasonic told us that the UB900 will be priced below 1,000.

To be honest, Panasonic Hollywood Labs always proved they cared about an accurate image with the older Uniphier generations. I would consider paying $700-800 for this player.
