OK, I will be a little patient. I am just a little excited. Just ordered my 4K Apple TV today and will receive next Friday. So anxious to see how well Apple does with this new 4K version of the device.

Another option would be for people to edit the database at https://www.blu-ray.com/itunes/

I didn't mean you to take responsibility to keep it updated, just the initial list would be a easier way to access it. Yeah the database would be a better place I guess.

My experience is the same as colacone. (iPhone 6 running iOS 11 beta GM, they show HD on my iPad Mini 4 running iOS 10)

Here's a shot of Allied I posted earlier which shows HDR and DV (other 4K stuff in the TV app library show the same HDR/DV for me)

Dolby Vision can be added through software, however it has certain strict hardware processor requirements, and apparently not all TV's can get it, unless it has already been announced for your TV's for example the high end 2017's will get DV, it probably won't get a DV update.

Same for me, pre-ordered an apple tv (64gb) for the fist time, I usually wait till the price drops a little.

35 Fifty Shades Of Grey (Dolby Vision)

62 Jason Bourne (Dolby Vision)
106 Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (Listed as Dolby Vision, but I suspect it's really just HDR)
109 Secret Life Of Pets (Dolby Vision)
Speaking of corrections to HDR, here are some.

Seems to be a lot of films showing as 4k without HDR, including movies that got UHD BD releases in HDR. Maybe it's just a matter of waiting for the full update sweep to be complete.

Hmm that makes sense.. any recommendations on what TV's are good now in the market to match the 4K specifications.. I guess most people don't yet have a 4K tv yet but after this update It's so tempting to get one

I have a Sony 850D series. The 930 is much better though, if you can afford it. I got a killer deal on this one when I used to work for Best Buy though. Open Box for 450 while it was selling brand new for 1100

Thanks, I'll look into it and narrow down a few models for an upgrade.

Hi.
Sorry to contradict you, but Dolby Vision and HDR10 are 2 different standards.
While considered technically superior (and for good reason), Dolby Vision is not a superset of HDR10.

Also, HDR premium is a TV certification program/alliance. HDR premium requires HDR10 or Dolby vision.
But an HDR capable TV does not need UHD premium to be able to accept HDR video, be it HDR10 or Dolby vision.
https://www.whathifi.com/advice/ultr...tvs-support-it

Netflix has both HDR10 and Dolby Vision versions of its HDR content, and plays DV on a DV capable TV, HDR10 if the TV is HDR10 but not DV capable.

Apple has a nice introduction to HDR video on its developer site https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/fall2017/502/
Go to 3'40" for an explanation of HDR formats.

A more technical video explains that the assets for HDR10 and DV are different. See after 0'52" here: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/fall2017/501/

I hope Apple does like Netflix and systematically includes both HDR10 and Dolby Vision versions of HDR content (we should know very soon).
It seems like that: I checked a few HDR iTunes movies I own, and they show as both HDR (which probably means HDR10) and Dolby Vision in the TV app.
However, they appear as either HDR or Dolby Vision, and not both in the iTunes Store. See these 2 examples:

So it seems like that's how Dolby Vision and HDR10 works when it comes to HDR? 4K disc disc/movie has Dolby Vision capability, but if your TV doesn't have DV but HDR10, it will still let you experience in HDR10 as a layer underneath. Am I understanding this properly? lol
Yep, but someone threw a spanner, now if you play a 4k title from Vudu, does it pop up HDR in your TV, cause apparently VUDU only has DV, which I didn't know about since my TV can do DV as all their UHD titles have DV.

I have the extended cuts of Days of Future Past and The Martian from code redemptions, but it seems like they haven't been upgraded to 4K. Any idea if they will add those (shouldn't be too hard with The Martian at least as there is a 4K disc release of that cut already) or if it will just be theatrical version only?

Both are available in 4K/HDR on FandangoNOW, so they there's a good chance!

This seems to be a rollout right now and I don't think the list of movies are completed yet. We should see more come in the next week prior to the release of the Apple TV 4K

All 2016 LG OLED's have DV in addition to HDR 10 as a factory firmware, this is true for 2017 LG OLEDs as well as the Sony OLED as well I believe. Here is a good link to find TV's which have DV in addition to HDR10.

For anyone interested in 4K file size;

I downloaded Pacific Rim to my gen 2 iPad Pro and it went from 6.07GB for the 1080p version to 17.03GB for the 4K so it looks like roughly a 3:1 boost in file size... good thing I got the 512GB Model Also even though the iPad isn’t 4K resolution wise it does look better than before. Could be the HDR. Personally for me HDR is far more noticble than 1080p-> 4k but ymmv...

Damn. That's quite a job in file size. I guess I need to invest in a new external hard drive for my digital copies.
