Pro amps officially better than consumer amps!

The XLS2500 is rated 440 watts stereo into 8 ohms, the 2000 still best the Sunfire with 375 into .8 ohms ....if you went with ,my recommendation, of the XLS 2000 with 5 bridged into mono...the Sunfire doesn't come close. With 375 watts stereo with the xls2000 with 5 amps...that's 10 channels!!!!! That blows the Sunfire away and Crown isn't going out of business anytime soon. If you want the single chassis of the Sunfire, more power to you, but I would prefer the stability of another company (one that's still putting out new product).

Just a insider word that I got at Axpona, Sunfire is not the company that it used to be.....I learned this during the cherry and BB demos, I asked some pointed questions and received some honest answers. The sunfire is actually 400 into 8ohms. Anyway, that aside, how can I connect so many amps with limited outlets? Shoot me a PM regarding Sunfire, I'm on my phone and for some reason can't select the PM option.

Man this thread has me torn!!!!!!!!! I'm only going to have 2 ch for a while so I may test out one of these amps. Anyone seen the crowns on sale? Hate to pay retail on anything.

It will accept spades - that's what a lot of people like about the Crown - it has pro and regular speaker connections on it (Neutrik and 5 way binding post). It also has unbalanced RCA connectors so no special wires to buy for connection to your pre-amp.

I'm using the Cary Audio SA-200.2 for my hi-end audio system and I plan to use the 200.2 for FL/FR in several years when I can upgrade my HT system.

I'll gladly entertain a face-off with any of the "budget" pro power amps in a 2-channel system (music). If the Cary doesn't wipe the floor with any of these amps then I'll choke down a nice plate of crow.

Im also dead set on buying the Crown xls line of pro amps for my speakers. I was also looking at the XPA-1s but if the pro amps are as good as people say they are....then by all means! Also the xpa 1 ONLY is 500 watts into 8 ohms where the xls2500 is up to 2000 watts i believe bridged. One xls2500 for each tower should be more than enough power considering musical peaks can require as much as 3-6 dbs more than the continuous level. In others words, i dont think the Crown XLS 2500 pro amp would ever run out of steam!

Hell my 1500 has yet to run out of steam on me, and that's not bridged, 300 watts per channel.

Pro amps have been used for ages from musicians to DJ's that might tell you something .

I'm reading that some receivers/pre-amps pre-outs have trouble powering the Crown XLS. Is this somehting I should be worried about? I'm using a Pioneer SC-05.

You might be very surprised. Pro amps are designed for instant power demands with headroom you wouldn't believe. I think the main difference is that pro gear is designed to be neutral as most boutique amps have a designed sound signature to them, which may, in many cases be what you perceive as better quality. But it actually isn't. I've used pro gear for years in live sound and studio work. Originally was using a vintage Adcom but soon discovered it's limitations compared to pro amps. I guess I could describe it as lazy compared to the Behringer. people also often associate weight with quality which is another misconception as they are total opposites in the way they work.

If you can afford to try one out (with a 30 day trial type deal) do so with an open mind.

i have 50 watts per channel on my Naim and it has yet to run out of steam.
