This rotel looks cool, and I'm looking for a replacement pre/pro that offers XLR outputs, without the desire for Atmos. But like you said, $3500 sounds a bit too pricey...

If you remember a few years back, Rotel offered a similar flagship pre/pro for a very high price tag....they don't hold value.

I'm holding out for Emotiva's reference pre/pro....MUCH better value than the Rotel unit.

I thought $3500 would be negotiable...after speaking to my rotel dealer the best price they can offer is around $3299....plus tax

nice the specs are very comparable with my Primare except that my Primare doesnt have HDMI 2.0 (fortunately its modular).

Wonder how does the sound compare to my Primare????

That's a good question, I was not familiar with Primare until now. I honestly think your processor would sound just as good, if not better, than the new rotel. I have had both positive and negative experiences with Rotel gear, so I can't really say....

The rotel unit does look very handsome though...

I hope that Arcam which is the brand which I want to get will have Dolby Atmos and DTS X , from what I hear people saying about Rotel is they make pretty sweet gear, I haven't heard there receivers for myself though.

ummmm this is not a receiver. rather a pre/pro meaning no amps included.

Just looked at Rotel's current offerings and it's kinda sad how much they've fallen off. While they were never really on the cutting edge of technology, not including Atmos and DTS: X in their current pre/pros is just silly and that's coming from someone who has no need for those codecs.

Rotel hit its peak a long time ago - Their gear has not changed much in the past decade yet the prices have increased dramatically. I used to have all their equipment then started to shop around....and like you said they were near cutting edge tech.

I still keep my RSP-1068 (circa 2005) pre/pro around for its Dolby and DTS matrix decoders, and its excellent sound. You have to wonder if they haven't included the object based sound formats by now, will they ever?

I had the 1066 IIRC.
