Default Can I disable Dolby audio on a player?

I know this must sound like heresy to some on here, but figured I'd try.

I just bought a cheap projector off of Amazon, and it can't play audio of anything with Dolby. I've figured out how to turn it off on my laptop, but can't figure it out on a Blu-ray player. Is it possible?

Eh, your projector is not supposed to be playing the sound.

Naiera is correct. A projector doesn't have a audio setup, just video. Your Blu-ray player should be able to encode and play all audio cedecs such as: Dolby, DTS and PCM through a receiver.

Most projectors have some kind of speaker, some of the short-throw ones have pretty decent ones.

You could try switching to PCM with your Blu-ray player's audio output. What player do you have BlueberryWaffles?

I'm surprised Dolby isn't playable.

the L/R outs should work no matter the settings unless you have some speaker configuration available on your player. Then I would look at that and see how it's set up

That's if they've got an older player, they phased out legacy outputs years ago (unless you've got a high-end machine).

Maybe not, but I did see the OP's mention of "cheap projector".

Yeah, this isn't the type of projector you all are thinking of. It was $60, so not your typical home theater pick. It does have onboard speakers, and a 3.5mm jack to play off of another speaker. I use a small portable speaker for mine. I don't know if it's possible to not send the audio through the projector, maybe I'll have to contact the manufacturer.

My player I'm trying to use is a Panasonic DMP-BD60. It's not my main player, just my old one from 2009.

chip75, when you said switch the audio output to PCM, does that mean I can still send the video through the HDMI cable?

Yes, that won't be a problem.
