Epson and Sony don’t have the capabilities of JVC’s DTM. And Sony is garbage with its long documented SXRD degradation issues. |

LOL… as you said projectors struggle with HDR. The Panasonic HDR to SDR in BT2020 colorspace is not flat… as much as I expected from your response
Sony’s SXRD’s are notorious for deteriorating in a few thousand hours. A well known calibrator has seen evidence of deterioration on EVERY unit he has returned to calibrate. Some are $60k units that have deteriorated to well under 1k:1 when they started at 10k-15k:1. I had one that went from dark inky blacks to bluish gray in about 5 years. SXRD has been problematic from the beginning. They don’t even make commercial theatrical units anymore because theaters were upset with premature failures of the panels. |

Seeing as I'm using just the one display (deficient or not) to compare regular Blu-ray with UHD Blu-ray using Panny's HDR to SDR conversion, my experiences are perfectly valid.

Considered very good. MadVR slightly better but not worth $15k price unless you need other VP capabilities. Add the JVC’s new 2.0 FW for their laser models that implement a new laser dimming there’s no reason to buy anything else in the JVC’s price range

Never found it flat. Just made the picture more SDR like with no specular highlights. Got the benefits of the expanded color gamut without sacrificing brightness trying to show specular highlights. Tradeoff yes but it made a lot of too dim to view HDR titles watchable on my JVC 540. A lot of projector manufacturers just flat out lie about HDR capabilities. Sony tried to imply they have dynamic HDR on their new line which was 100% bull$h!t. They all look good in bright scenes but evaluate them in a low light level scene most of them are crap unless one has an external VP like the ones mentioned above. On my 3100 laser unit I use the new Auto Wide mode frame adapt HDR setting combined with the new laser dimming mode 3 there’s not much left to improve upon wrt video. All while passing HDR10 video from the UB9000. No reason to use the Panasonic optimizer anymore. |
