Default Summer Blu-ray vs. HD-DVD count

I just added up the announced titles from highdefdigest from May 22 - July 31, and HD-DVD has 67 titles, whereas Blu-ray has only 47 titles. This seems like quite the discrepancy. Let's hope that we get a bunch more titles announced soon.

It does not matter. All you need is a faith.

Look, 300 men against thousand soliders, 300 men wins. So, because they have faith and believe in themselves and God limit number soliders that God told them to have 300 men to go war against thousand men, which sound impossible for us, but anything is possible to God.

Blu-ray is doing fine and still leading margin over HD DVD.

There are plenty Blu-ray titles for me to make purchases this summer.

Fox and Sony still haven't made any huge announcements yet while Universal have done all the announcing they are going to do until September now. Sony alone will cancel out Universal, so don't fret.

LOL. I think I'll leave the god comment alone.....
Yeah, let's hope that Sony and Fox have some big announcemnets. Although, we'd probably be on par with HD-DVD right now, if so many titles weren't already indefinitely delayed.

Universal only makes so may good movies. Most of the movies they release weren't huge box office hits. Just look up the list of their HD-DVD release and compare it to Blu-rays. I think that they've changed the stradegy to quantity of movies not quality. To some this may be good enough.

According to the HiDefDigest, there are roughly 233 BDs released and 198 HD DVDs. This is maintaining a 30 or so title lead that BD has had for some time.

It would be sad to see this lead erode, but at least in recent times even with Fox holding titles back, BD has been keeping pace with HD DVD releases.

Hopefully this will continue at least to be the case.

Someone should kick Fox and wake them up already. This is getting tiresome. Also, where the hell is Lionsgate? Looks like they ran and burried their heads in the sand too.

When BD+ is implemented soon, Fox will begin releasing and announcing. And don't forget, Fox also represents a huge MGM library as well. Sony and Disney both have big arsenals of classics and blockbusters, as well as popular new releases.

Universal doesn't really have squat, except a lot of Spielberg films which can't be released until Spielberg says so.

And another thing to consider -- catalog titles don't sell as well as popular new releases. They also cost alot more to put into Hi Def because some of them need restoration work.

Let's all sit tight. It's going to be an exciting summer!

As soon as Fox announces some titles for summer, we should be good again.

quality over quantity....even though BD has both....

but I guarantee you the announced titles for BD will outweigh the HD-DVD movies in sales....all they have right now is the Matrix Trilogy as an advantage...but that's only temporary...

we have Pirates and then the spiderman series coming...and so-on...

What is the current target date for BD+?

I have a feeling that they will announce a few "test" titles to output with the new encryption, then wait quite a while before they put the big films out -- just to see how soon it is cracked.

We may never see many Fox titles on anything.

I was referring to what is scheduled for release between now and then end of July. I'm sure that after that, blu-ray should really be on a roll. It just seems that the next two months may be a bit sparse. That is all.

People are always mentioning Fox, but is interesting that Fox released in 3 months about more BDs than Paramount released HD DVDs in a year, and I don't see the brick red crowd wondering about Paramount's lack of support that much...

I still think if the studios did not drag their feet as much as they do, this war could well be nearing a conclusion. Blu ray may have the lead, but they are giving HD-DVD way too much breathing room. More should be done to show they are serious about becoming the dominant format. HD-DVD is like the underdog fighter who sticks around late in a fight and gets in that one lucky punch causing the surprise upset. I say take HD-DVD out as early as possible to avoid putting themselves in a situation where it could bite them later.
The only way to do that is overwhelm them with high quality releases and for studios like WB to pick up the pace. I have no doubt in my own mind Blu ray will win, I have 30 titles so far in support of the format, but I know a few lucky breaks for HD-DVD and they can be right back in this. What are the odds that the longer this stretches out that Blu ray only studios will likely go neutral taking one of their largest advantages, more studio support?

completely right smalls! BD should just crush hd-ded instantly with like 500 releases(JK). but yes, hd-ded is getting too comfortable if you ask me and stupid wb keeps encouraging them. i mean come on why would wb release the matrix the same date as the pirates release? BD should widen the release lead by at least 50 titles.

In my opinion:
Phase 1: Universal is putting out as much of their catalog as possible on HD-DVD this year so they can maximize their sales on this format before next year. HD-DVD supporters are buying all the crap that Universal puts out to try and keep the numbers up for their format.

Phase 2: Next year Universal will go format neutral and we the Blu-ray supporters will finally be able to purchase the titles we want from them.

Phase 3: HD-DVD will slowly go away like DIVX. Without support for HD-DVD Universal will resale the Blu-ray versions of their movies to early HD-DVD supporters who now own both formats, but cannot find players for their old HD-DVD discs.

This is obviously only speculation and opinion, but who knows.
