What did y'all think of Funimation's 2199 set?

Wondering if I should pre-order 2202. Would like to watch the dub, but always wary of Funi.

Never seen any screenshots so I can’t say anything on it. There is a huge lack of screenshots and stats on it...

The dub was actually pretty acceptable for 2199, and that's coming from a strict sub-only guy who just recently showed the series to friends who needed to watch it in English. I also have the JP releases, so I've seen it subbed at least 4 or 5 times previously, so this time through wasn't too painful for me at all.

Yeah, I liked the dub from what I saw on Funi Now.

Don't mind continuing subbed if it turns out to be a crappy release, though. Originally watched 2199 subbed with the Japanese box set.

the US master has more banding, but its very slight.

Unless your looking for it then its not really noticable.

Hey Pika, you got Yamato 2199. Mind ripping it and sharing some screenshots tomorrow (or whenever is most convenient)? I cannot find any screencaps anywhere, and am curious if FUNi delivered or not...

I started watching Sentai's BDs of Ef: A Tale of Memories today and it's banding city. It's pretty poor looking. The banding is obvious in the screenshots from the review on this site. Our favorite reviewer gave it a 5/5 of course .

The Complete Collection for Memories and Melodies has the same discs as their previous sets. The encodes on these discs dates all the way back to 2012 when Sentai wasn't known for good quality, so it's not to be compared to their much better encode quality these days.

If you look closely in his reviews, he pretty much never mentions the encoding. So he only talks about the aesthetics. And because of that, it leads to huge discrepancies and blatant lies about the encoding.

How can he lie about the encoding if he doesn’t talk about it like you said

Because of nonsense like this:

Ef: A Tale of Memories is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Sentai Filmworks with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 1.78:1. This is one of the most immaculate high definition anime presentations in recent memory. The design aesthetic of the series is made for high def, and this Blu-ray pops magnificently throughout the first season's twelve episodes. Colors are incredibly vivid and variegated, and the series' really cool graphical elements—where things like characters are displayed in "negative" or with their faces bifurcated with two different animation styles—are presented with crystal clear line detail and impeccable sharpness and clarity. The "special effects" (for want of a better word) on display throughout the series also look fantastic, with special kudos due to the really beautiful renderings of the environment, especially the sky, which recurs throughout the series in a variety of gorgeous (if often unusual) hues.

He just uses positive things to describe the aesthetic. It gives off the false impression of it being good.

I almost bought it at the holiday sales, too. Sounds like I dodged a bullet.

Ef was one of the first anime BD's I bought lol

Opened my Yamato set and the disc art is pretty nice and has the logo shiny and embedded/raised letters on it.

Give me a few to rip the disc and check it out.

Bitrate seems high for a Funi release and I assume it is the ED killing it off at the end. Here are some screenshots too.
