Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all my friends here at the Blu-Ray forum!

so, Santa Drawers got Uncle Solarrdadd an AppleTV 4K 32gb streamer, two watches and some giftcards to BB & Panera!

I haven't hooked up the ATV, but, I will either tonight but most likely tomorrow as i'm going to my Daughters house to make a delicious Omaha Steaks Private Reserve 14oz NY Strip for my part in the Holiday Dinner! and yes, i'm bringing my cast iron skillet for that NY Strip Steak!

got home about an hour ago from having Christmas Dinner at my Daughters place; her Mom was also there with us as we still do major holidays as a family. we had a great time. she made a nice pan of Roasted Root Vegetables and I made that yummy 14oz Private Reserve NY Strip Steak. Good Lord, that steak was so tender, cooked it entirely on the stove in that cast iron skillet too. we at every bit of it too, no leftovers!

we exchanged gifts, had lots of laughs, reminisced about times gone and things both good and bad. then we had Strawberry Topped NY Cheesecake. it was a perfect evening, one for the books for sure. Nothing like a good meal, good food and good memories with Family!

I hope all of you had a good holiday with your Families as well!

perhaps later today, after I hit the gym and go out for breakfast/brunch I will come home and set up my appleTV 4K.

I've also been thinking about doing some wire management to my HT as things have gotten out of hand with some of the changes I've made that I didn't get things in order. I think it's about that time! since i'm off all this week, perhaps I should get'er done!

i'll keep you guys posted if I do and i'll throw up some pictures too!

Morning SD, sounds like you had a great Christmas. I saw over at AVS that you were asking about settings for your new ATV4K. Below is what I use and are the consensus settings for watching shows in their native format.

Make sure Quick Start, found in Apps / iTunes Movies and TV Shows, is on. Turning it off forces HD only which means no UHD, HDR, or Atmos or E-AC-3.

Video
4K SDR
Match Dynamic Range and Frame Rate both set to ON
This will give you UHD with the appropriate HDR, HDR10 or Dolby Vision

Audio
Be sure to enable Atmos in the audio menu

With these settings you will be enjoying 4K shows in their native format. Let me know how they workout for you.

Just read your posts in the ATV4K thread here so I guess my post was a bit late. At least it serves as conformation of the settings you got from JohnAV. Have fun with it, itís a pretty cool device. Happy New Year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, SD! Not much of a Christmas here, we has a Christmas Day dinner with just my parents and my oldest daughter, that is about it. The only present I got was that I bought an $800 anime series box set for myself, lol.

I see you have been roaming around today sir. Got a Q? for you.
I know you have had the TCL displays for awhile now. How are they performing and if you had to do it all over again would your buy them again?

I have the TCL on my short list of possible upgrades, that's if I recover from health issues and get back to work.

howdy Uncle Al, sorry i haven't been in my own thread for so long, nobody posts anything here (self included ) so i just don't bother!

I am very happy with my TCL tv's. i own 3 of them. i'm not a videophile, i'm not necessarily a video guy, so, i don't sit around running test patterns and calibrating things to the molecule! it either looks good to me (with minimal adjustments) or it doesn't. i'm easy to please in the video section.

and yes, when i get my next tv, it will be a TCL. i'm not saying they are the best or that they are better than any other brand. what i am saying is for the money i paid, i know i've gotten and incredible value and i didn't pay a lot either!

i'm sure you have already gotten your new tv if you were in the market, but, i just saw the post and responded. better late than never!

Thanks for your response. It will be at least another year before I might even be able to buy a new TV. Thankfully my Sharp has no issues. By the way you should download the BLU-RAY app to your phone and you get notifications when someone post, comments, or thanks your posts. That's how I knew you quoted me.

Is there a blu-ray.com app for the phone? I found one called My Movies by Blu-ray.com, but it doesn't seem to give me access to the forum and posting. Sorry, not tech savvy.
(Update: Never mind, I'm now getting notifications of comments/thanks through the My Movies app on my phone which is what I wanted to achieve.)

I know I'm very late to the party, but TCL's are the easiest TV's......to repair!!!! Three boards, that's it. I've had to repair one of mine and it only cost about $28! I opened it up and it was just like looking a a pc!!!! For that reason alone, I like them.

That's good to hear. I have my eye on the 6 Series 75" that sports the Mini-Leds. I'm hoping they come out with a reasonably priced 85"
