Default All BD players downconvert 1080p to 1080i/60 then upconvert to 1080p/60?

Read the following line on AVS: "All BD players downconvert 1080p to 1080i/60 then upconvert to 1080p/60".
My knowledge about this is limited.
Is this true?

What about the PS3, does the PS3 do this as well?

Not sure about the PS3 but the three current set top players do this I believe.

The Pioneer apparently is capable of 24p unmolested output and the Sony could have this feature also.

Of course, the Toshiba HD DVD players also convert to 1080i... period

It will be interesting to see what the (now delayed) XA2 eventually does.

The PS3 will play 1080p games at 60fps without downconverting.

And the difference here is that they don't up it back to 1080p
It is left @ 1080i ...

It depends on the TV. If the spec says it can take 1080p24, then it can via HDMI. Usually it's not something that is upgradeable.

The PS3 I believe can do it. Sony just doesn't want it to do it. So 1080p60

Bleh. Looks like I am in for 3rd TV within last 18 months if my Sammy can't do that. Plus the player with pure 1080p/23fps.

Sony player out puts at 1080p24 and 1080p60. Same with the Pioneer. All others do the conversion. The only HDTV i have found that will do 1080p24 is Pioneer Elite Plasma and possibly the sony XBR lcd (40"-52").
