For 13 pounds I'm ordering the UK Blu-ray again, comes out next week, hopefully this time I don't have to deal with region B locked discs and hopefully this time if they say dts-ma it will actually have it.
I might import it too, so I'm looking forward to reading your feedback once you get it. When I checked amazon page yesterday, it did say region A and B but I don't trust that.

Looks like it's locked to REGION B and I hear the first half of the onboard laps has an error in the authoring that doesn't allow deinterlacing to occur which likely drops the resolution in 1/2 to 1920x540 or something like that. However it does have dts-ma which is wicked.

Well that's a shame if it is region locked. I guess I should consider buying a player for other regions, getting sick of this region lock crap...

I've been looking into this for quite some time obviously since I had the issue with last year's disc. Apparently the Orei M2 looks like a good option. It plays any DVD whether NTSC or PAL regardless of region, and plays any Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray regardless of region, also converting 1080i50 > 1080i60 on the fly for those of us (most of us in NA) whose TV's won't handshake with a 1080i50 signal.

They said the conversion is automatic. However you have to set the region manually to B to play a REGION B disc, so I wanted to confirm whether or not this affected the conversion. They've confirmed that even when set to REGION B a 1080i50 disc will still automatically convert to 1080i60 unless you go into the settings and change it to "MULTI" which would be multi-system.

Sounds like this is a winner to me. It's only $150 shipped from Amazon.

The 2011 disc is region B only.
The 2012 disc is most likely region B only as well.

Yep, mine arrived tonight..."THIS BD WILL ONLY PLAY IN A REGION B PLAYER" comes up on the screen after it loads.

I am likely going to order the Orei M2 tomorrow, plays all DVD and Blu-ray discs and converts NTSC > PAL and 1080i50 > 1080i60, also plays 3D discs.

Yeah I guess I'll start looking for a region free player too.

First 2013 reveal is suddenly only 5 days away:

https://twitter.com/Lotus_F1Team/sta...36786056253440

And the E21 firing up:
https://soundcloud.com/lotusf1team/e21-first-fire-up

Lastly, Pirelli's 2013 tyres. Silver branding replaced with orange (thank goodness, silver & white were too similar)

http://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/pi...rmula-1-tyres/

Quote:
The defining characteristic of the 2013 Pirelli Formula One tyres is softer compounds all round, which will allow them to reach peak operating temperature faster and deliver lap times that are around 0.5 seconds faster than last year.

Swift evolution of Pirelli’s tyre technology has allowed the new hard tyre – the PZero Orange – to be roughly equivalent to last year’s medium compound. The tyre sidewalls are softer this year, but the shoulders are stronger. The effect of this is faster thermal degradation while the tyre’s peak performance window is extended. Traction is also improved, which translates into faster lap times, especially on the exit of corners and in combined traction areas, from braking to acceleration and vice versa.

The performance gap between the different compounds is now in excess of 0.5 seconds per lap, as opposed to last year when the difference was often smaller: particularly in the latter half of the season. Faster thermal degradation and a bigger performance gap between the compounds will encourage overtaking throughout each race.

That really blows. I hadn't watched a race since '94 before last year, and I really got back into it. I was hoping to pick this disc up, but I won't be buying a region-free player just to do so.

New Ferrari, McLaren cars look similar to last year. Sauber's car looks a lot better, I kinda like it. The purple on the new RB9 isn't very appealing to me. Lotus have gone and ruined their car even more with even more red. UGHHHHH.

I really like the new Sauber as well, thought it looked too much like Super Aguri before. Lotus use the black and gold which has such incredible memories of Senna for some of us, then botch it up with more red. Me no likey either.

Less that 40 days to go until P1!

Looks like Ferrari confirmed that they are not going to sign Vettle for 2014. I guess they are happy with their driver lineup and are currently working with Fernando on a contract extension which means if he signs he will retire as a Ferrari driver, which he says he wants to do. Good news? Signing Fernando to a long term deal yes because he is one of the best in my book but not signing Vettle? I dont know about that. Vettle is a Ferrari killer if you ask me and why wouldnt you want him on your team? Personally I think its a bad move if its really true. I guess in the end they were impressed enough with Massa's driving at the end of the season last year to keep him around but I hope it dont come around and bite them in the butt and being a die hard Ferrari supporter I hope that dont happen. I also read, and I dont know if its true, but Alonso does not want Vettle on the team! If that is indeed true then I think he should be reminded who owns and runs the team and he dont make those decisions. But it is what it is and Fernando must have alot of pull.

So Marussia posted some pics today of NBCSN filming at testing. Then someone replied with this (which Will Buxton retweeted)

Link to conversation: https://twitter.com/alanvdm/status/304537750479192065

I can't tell what cameras they were using, so maybe some more savvy people can tell. They also said there will be a pre-season show airing each day (I think one show re-aired, not 7, but not sure) for a week leading up to first weekend.

But I'm wondering, if they are doing high-quality filming and stuff, if they are going for quality over quantity. Has there been any official announcement yet of what/when stuff will be aired? We're just over three weeks out...
