Special Discs Update:

Things are going really well in terms of getting everything finished out. Mary has been doing a great job keeping in contact with everyone, and it's an incredible relief to see all these things getting finished and going out. The Popeye Pre-orders are in this giant push to get everything out the door. We have a new Blu-ray burner tower on deck and have been going around the clock to finish the bonus discs as well as the regular orders.

Since we have a new scanning place as of a few days ago, we're now able to scan things here again (on a lasergraphics scanner). We just got the last stuff for the commercials done and I've already sent stuff today to all my freelancers that aren't busy to clean them up. I'm hoping to sit down and animate on Rainbow Parade titles in a bit if exhaustion doesn't take over.

We should have the stuff done for All Censored this next week or so if all goes well. There's two more films to scan and one film that I have no idea where to find a better print; we may just have to go with what we have. I have a huge goal in getting out as much as we can right now.

The giant challenge is cash flow in getting all this stuff out the door. Postage this week is going to be well over 1k- and scans will be as well. We're a scrappy little company but trying hard to make things work right now; I can't thank Mary and Dave Grauman enough for stepping in and getting things much more organized; I've been overwhelmed in trying to get it shored up, even as things go really well...

Steve, do you think all the Popeye pre-orders will ship this week? And when they do ship, will we be getting an e-mail to let us know?
Thanks!

Hi Jason-

There's so many that sending emails is hard. We're working on a system to automate that though with what will be the new Thunderbean shop. It will track all the orders and make a list of each.

Check your email- there's something neat-o i want you to bid on ebay!

I also forwarded the email to Jerry Beck!

It's not Fleischer, Famous Studios or Pal- but a well-respected studio!

Default Progress and a new set "Top Shelf Scans'!

The productive summer continues!

Almost through sending everyone finished here. Mary has been doing an amazing job catching up things, and Dave and Becky are handling all the regular Amazon orders. The special stuff has been taking full days with Dave and I rocketing through it. If there is anything you’re still missing that’s finished we’re most likely sent it this week. We now have two BDR towers, and we’ll be working on a third to keep things from backing up as we get through this next batch of special discs. I’m listing a bunch of 16mm prints for sale as well to boost revenue and move things along faster as well. The Thunderbean email is now unspammed as well, and Mary is working on catching up any other things I’ve missed there.

I’m picking up the first batch of new 16mm and 35mm scans in a little while today- excited to see how they’re looking! There’s a stop Motion short from ‘Stop Motion Marvels 2’ that’s part of this batch (the last film to finish for that set) and a film for the All Censored set, and lots of commercials. I’m hoping to drop off the rest of the Noveltoons (for the long awaited bonus disc of those) and the few last things for the Grotesqueries Bonus as well. Later I’ll be looking at masters on the finished ‘special’ discs before we start to get them all dubbed. Catching pop is a ton of work, but I’m enjoying it. If we’re able I’d like to get 7 or more of the special sets out the door together.

With new scans being done and all the postage costs this week (now nearing 1k all together with more to go-almost all for the Popeye and bonus disc) and now having a new reliable place to scan, we’re doing a special set (the first new thing we’re offered in many months) to help support these and get things done a little faster!

It’s called: Top shelf scans!

This collection (BDR) consists of 11 cartoons and a great trailer reel, all scanned from rare original 35mm and 16mm prints. Fleischer, Disney and Warners are all represented in this set. There’s several nitrate shorts included that will never be available any other way.

It is available for one week only, July 31st.

The set is $15.95 plus $3 shipping; no shipping if you have any other Thunderbean sets ordered. Postage out of the country is $12, but again free if you have other sets. PayPal is, as usual, steves@thunderbeananimation.com. Make sure to list 'top shelf scans' in the paypal note- and make sure to include your address.

Thanks to everyone for your support and keeping the faith through all these projects!

I don't know why Steve is always willing to trade his cool moving images of old cartoons for my boring static images of dead US presidents, but I don't ask too many questions, I just agree to the deal every time.

With the aggressive efforts currently being made to destroy the USPS, I’m just hoping my discs are sent to my new address - I’ve already had two packages and my absentee ballot lost by the Postal Service in the last four months (and they were all properly addressed). I wouldn’t mind receiving that refund I was promised six months ago, too. OK, time to add another Special Disc to the list....

Angry What s the point?!

Steve...
1) whatís the point of being happy that releases are finished as you DONíT send them to those who ordered or preordered?!
2) Cash flow problems? You must be a millionaire now by taking peopleís money to make blurays and not sending them to people who paid for them!

The last things for 'Cartoon Commercials 2' (blu-ray) were scanned yesterday. They look great. Most of the animation in 60s and 70s commercials is on 2s, so they're easier to get the dust and dirt out of. Three of us (myself and freelancers) are working on cleaning them up over the weekend. I'm hoping to master the set this coming week.

I'll post some stills over the weekend....

Here’s my review of the Popeye set, freshly submitted to Amazon (I would encourage all of you fellow purchasers here to do likewise, we gotta blow this thing up real big):

Quote:
Steve Stanchfield and Thunderbean Animation have knocked another one out of the park. Popeye: Original Classics in Technicolor is their latest Blu-ray release of classic animated shorts, and boy, is it a doozy! First of all, you get no fewer than six Fleischer shorts from the ‘30s (two of them in Technicolor and four in B/W), all from gorgeous prints, which are worth the price of admission alone, as they are all brilliant films and no Fleischer Popeyes are currently available elsewhere on Blu-ray. But that’s not all: you also get an early ‘40s B/W Famous Studios short that’s nearly as great as the preceding Fleischers, four ‘50s color shorts from Famous that are lesser films but still quite entertaining and from excellent prints, and finally, the pilot episode of the first Popeye television series from 1960, which of course is a much lower budgeted affair, but it’s still fun and channels that mid-century modern feel, and again, the print is pristine. And, that’s STILL not all: rounding out this splendid conglomeration is a fascinating array of Popeye-themed extras, the best of which is a mint Cinecolor print of the 1939 Popular Science short that goes behind the scenes at Fleischer Studios and shows us the making of a Popeye cartoon.

In short, this sterling quality set belongs in the collection of any self-respecting fan of vintage animation, especially Popeye fans, who will find treasures herein that they won’t find elsewhere. Order with confidence!

Have all the discs for pre-orders and bonus discs been sent out?

I've sent reminders whenever you've asked, but I haven't received anything in quite awhile.
