Default 5.1.2 Receiver Configuration with External Amp

Hi everyone. Itís been a while since I last posted on here. Hope everyone is doing well. Iíve been considering upgrading from my 5.1 setup to a 5.1.2 Atmos setup. I currently have an Outlaw 7500 amp powering my front three KEF speakers, and my Yamaha Aventage 2080 is just powering the two surrounds. Iím looking to add two front upfiring speakers. Right now, on my Yamaha, the power amp assign setting is set to ď7.2.2 [ext.Front] +1ZoneĒ. I suppose the Yamaha would be strong enough to power the two surrounds and also the two Atmos speakers. Iím just curious whether I would need to make any changes to the power amp assign setting if I used the Zone 2 pre-outs in order to have the Outlaw power the Atmos speakers. The power amp assign options just seem a bit confusing to me. I assume the Yamaha 2080 is fine with having 5 channels (L, C, R, Front Presence L, R) being driven by an external amp, even though the current power amp assign setting indicates that only the Front L+R speakers are connected to an external amp. Any help and guidance would be appreciated! Would be glad to clarify if anything doesnít make sense. Thanks!

I believe your receiver should be fine powering your surround and Atmos speakers.the front 3 are the real power hungry ones, and they're already powered separately. When I get Atmos, I plan on letting the receiver do my 4 surrounds and 4 Atmos, while separate amplifiers handle the front s.
