I donít have one of those dreaded 4K locked discs, but itís been stated those are region locked with a regular Blu Ray flag, because thereís no such lock on the 4K UHD spec. As such, being region-free for regular Blus should be enough.

If a 4K is region coded then it will be locked up on that territory.
I have a Zone B UHD player and the movie "Outpost" UHD locked on Zone A.
Nothing will make it work unless you have a Zone A UHD. So I can't use.

It is very frustraiting. You can see the lengths I go to to get around region coding and it still bites once and a while.

Pic: Zone B UB9000 plays UHD not region coded and Zone B blu-rays
Oppo BDP103D plays Zone A blu-ray.

Sure, for these discs a region B UHD player wouldn't work. It's a terrible practice... The traditional strategy of getting a cheap foreign player comes up short, unless it's another 4K UHD player (as in, not so cheap).

Just to clarify: what I meant before was that having a region-free (modded) UHD-capable player should work.

There's someone on the region locked UHD thread that confirmed it already:

So it's just a matter of setting the player to region A and then loading the locked disc (just like with regular Blus).

My Sony BD player, purchased from 220 in January, no longer lets me play Region A or Region B, only discs encoded for both regions. It seems to be in a region limbo! Is this a know problem?

My player isn't connected to the net so I assume it's not got any updates.

The good news is, 220 Electronics guarantees the regions will switch for the life of the player. I would contact them and see what you need to do to get it fixed/replaced.
