16mm cannot be DNRed. The scan of it can be, but the scan done in the nineties would probably not be HD.

Yes, but surely the 90s scan has been thrown out? It would have been done on outdated equipment presumably at standard definition, necessitating a fresh scan of the negative. Meaning whatever was done with the old master, no longer has any bearing.

An article listing the main problems with Buffy's HD is finally available. It's on the BuffyHD Facebook page, but let's hope it'll give ideas to bigger blogs and websites to write their own articles!

In the meantime, share, share, share :

Great job to everyone who created that Buffy article! I sent it off to a writer who works for Vox, and he turned it into a legit article for their website! Vox has even reached out to 20th century Fox for comment. That oughta finally get their attention.

http://www.vox.com/2014/12/12/7385261/buffy-ruined

The article is already spreading throughout social media

Can someone try submitting that article to be posted on Whedonesque, or to the main Buffy Facebook page?

That's awesome! It'd be great if we could finally get a statement from Fox.

I guess Joss Whedon saw the article, he just tweeted this: https://twitter.com/josswhedon/statu...50973495726080

At least we're sure he knows now I'm not sure he'll do anything about it though, I think he's much more stubborn than David Simon about 4:3.

I'm shocked there's fans on whedonesque that love the 16:9 versions and also would like both 4:3 & 16:9 on Blu-ray. A lot of the people posting the articles on their sites leave that out.

On a slightly related point, do the remastered versions of the first two series of Buffy still use the original theme? Or did they replace it with the second version of the theme used from mid-series 3 onwards?

Clearly not enough characters on Twitter for Whedon to tweet which seasons of Buffy in widescreen are nonsense

On a more serious note though, I wonder if this may eventually have repercussions for an eventual disc release. They may not care about broadcast, but I would imagine any disc release would be sent to Whedon for some sort of approval. He would certainly have his say if they wanted him for extra features etc.

Holding out hope here that a series release complete in 4x3 may be more likely now.

While I wouldn't mind a proper widescreen release for Buffy, I'll definitely take a 4:3 release over if it means not having any of the cropping/framing/color/SFX issues of those Pivot broadcasts.

By the way, very nice the exposure the article's got so far

What if the release has the correct cropping, but all of the other issues such as colour and special effects?
