Argh! I am always scared threads like this will appear...
I only have a few Media Asia dics but Isabella - one of my favorite modern HK movies, won't play anymore.
Damn!

What a depressing thread.

Has anyone tried contacting Mega Star - maybe later pressings aren't affected?

Thank you for the heads up. I was able to back up my copies of The Sniper, Vengeance, and Warlords without issue. I didn't notice any bronzing like on some of the Well Go USA disc (with a dark ring around the outer edge of the disc).

I did notice on the three titles mentioned above each had a gold/light bronze color on the bottom, but didn't have the darker ring around the outer edge. Would anyone know if this is the normal color for those disc or could it be in the early stages of bronzing? I guess it's time to back up everything.

Mould IFPI codes for all discs in question, both dead and still working, would help illuminate the situation (are there multiple pressings? are all discs from a certain manufacturer going bad? etc.)

Well, you have a 1st answer in this thread (eg Mould Code FD88 is baaaaaad ahah) thanks to BigManDeath and Donnie_Yen (thank you so much for your work so far, guys!).

Here is a summary of everything that has been said in the first 3 pages of this thread (it would be wise to update the OP with a master's list of all the titles which are possibly dying):

Media Asia / MegaStar :

Breaking News
Accident
As Tears Go By (Master Code LW83, Mould Code FD88)
Lady Cop & Papa Crook (Master Code LW83, Mould Code FD88)
Look for a Star
If You Are the One
Naked Weapon
The Sniper
Isabella (not bronzed, but didn't work)

Kam & Ronson:

On His Majesty's Secret Service
Kung Fu Chefs
The Accidental Spy (not bronzed, but didn't work) (Master Code LN91, Mould Code FD88)
Bad Blood (Master Code: LP01, Mould Code: 7T33)
Womb Ghosts (Master Code: LP01, Mould Code: 7T33)
Detrot Metal Rock City

Panorama (all bronzed):

Election 1 + 2 (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FD88)
A1 (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FD88)
Overheard (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FD88)
Everlasting Regret (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FZ88)
Butterfly (Master Code: LN91, Mould Code: FZ88)
All's Well End's Well 2009 (Master Code: LP01, Mould Code: FD88)

Panorama's Master Code and Mould Code changed after 2009 and the new ones still work fine (for how long?)

Turning Point (CN Entertainment) (Master Code: LP01 , Mould Code: ML06)
14 Blades (Universe)
Black Ransom (Vicol)

Taiwan (Pony):

Mercury Man (Master Code: LW84 , Mould Code: IC0Z)
A Tale of Legendary Libido Master (Master Code: LW84 , Mould Code: IC0Z)

"P" (Master Code: LW84 , Mould Code: IC0Z)

The Restless (Bit Wel)
Queens of Langkasuka (Bit Wel)

It may very well be a newer pressing. I bought it a year or two ago.

I started a google spreadsheet. Please feel free to enter your findings so we can have a comprehensive list. We may want to sticky it to the OP. Feel free to add columns you think are important/feel are missing.

I only entered my findings so far in my collection.

Actually, my personal copy appears to be OK (I am backing it up as I type this), but back when I imported and sold discs I had multiple customers return their brand new copies because they would not play. When I checked every copy, they were all dead and bronzed. I had a stack of 14 BLADES that I just threw away (still gives me the shivers just thinking about it ). I stopped stocking the disc after that. Same thing happened with DETROIT METAL CITY.

Updated the spreadsheet. I have entered everything so far that has been in this thread. These are the fields/columns so far.

- Title
- Distributor
- Release Date
- Out of Print (OOP)?
- Master Code
- Mould Code
- Notes

Thanks a lot for your work!!

And that is a big question. I don't know... the latter may be better, don't you all think?

I updated the spreadsheet, removing duplicate entries. I was overly thinking it and the focus should be just a single list of titles that we easily identify as being defective.

While seeing who's discs are affected is nice as it gives an idea of actual counts, it probably is not/may not be necessary for the core purpose of this list.

I can reinstate those columns if we want them as I have a backup of that version. What do you guys think?
